George Zimmerman's wife arrested for perjury

SANFORD -- George Zimmerman’s wife, Shellie, was booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility Tuesday on one count of perjury.

Deputies arrested Shellie Zimmerman, 25, where she was living around 3:30 p.m. and has since bonded out.

The bond was set at $1,000.

Earlier this month, prosecutors accused Shellie of lying to the court during a bond hearing for her husband in April. Shellie testified by phone about how much money they had, which turned out to be much more than originally claimed.

Zimmy might be willing to settle for, say, voluntary manslaughter in exchange for the case being dismissed against the missus. And the victim's family might settle for Zimmy having to admit that he was not justified in killing him -- plus, I believe they'd still be able to file wrongful death/civil rights violation charges.

I think that something like that is where he is headed. Maybe this arrest will put a little pressure on him.

On edit, this arrest would make it easier for Zimmerman to save face if he did agree to a plea-bargain. I wonder whether that would affect his lawyer's fees. That might change the equation a bit.

Blatantly lie in front of the judge and try to conceal funds -- lots of funds -- and there you have it. Mrs and Mr GZ sitting in matching cells. How precious.

Where does this all go now? The plot twists are getting too convoluted to follow.

A state attorney investigator met with credit union officials and learned she had control of transfers to and from her husband's account.

Jeffrey Neiman, a former federal prosecutor now in private practice, said cash transactions in excess of $10,000 usually trigger a reporting requirement by the bank to multiple government agencies - including the IRS.

"If Mrs. Zimmerman intentionally structured the financial transactions in a manner to keep the offense under $10,000, not only may she have committed perjury in the state case, but she also may have run afoul of several federal statutes and could face serious federal criminal charges," Neiman wrote in an email to The Associated Press.

Anybody with a brain knows that you send random amounts in the $6,000-$8,000 range when you're trying to conceal deposits (under $10,000) from the Feds, since $7249 just registers differently than $9990 or $9999. This is obvious to even beginning-level money launderers.
