Tea Party Grassroots Gather In Washington To Prep For 'The Hostile Takeover'

WASHINGTON -- A four-day conference for conservative activists organized by FreedomWorks was capped off Monday with a boisterous press conference.

"Welcome to the hostile takeover," said Matt Kibbe, president and CEO of the Tea Party group. "We, as shareholders of the American enterprise, feel like it's far past time that we beat the Washington establishment. In case you've read otherwise, we have not gone away."

The DC Fly-In & Activist Training Boot Camp brought in grassroots conservative activists from across the country, many of them affiliated with Tea Party groups and their local Republican Party, to network and learn campaign skills for the fall election. In the spirit of FreedomWorks' motto, "Lower taxes, less government, more freedom," the conference featured such talks as "Fighting the Unions: School Choice," "Washington Unbound Spending, Taxes & Regulation," and "Taming the EPA: Unleashing America's Energy."

On Monday afternoon, FreedomWorks, which was founded by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas) in 2004, organized a lobbying walkabout on Capitol Hill to push Democratic senators to oppose tighter coal ash restrictions.

I find myself envious of the organization they've put together. It seems to be rather effective. WE NEED THAT STUFF TOO!!!!!!

This is politics. Not a church social (which, I realize, can get pretty nasty and political). Not a day at the beach (where many of us don't even go anymore because of all the toxins in the water and sand). It's the shitty, nasty, icky, filthy, ruthless, bloodthirsty, immoral, and amoral world of politics. And if you try to play it clean and kind, you just get rolled. Everyone says they hate negative ads - but dammit, they WORK! They get RESULTS!!! And if we don't get results, we're screwed, and even worse - our whole country is screwed.

And I hate what I just wrote. It frankly kinda disgusts me. I apologize with all my heart. It makes me cringe even realizing I'm feeling compelled to think this way. But that's the reality - much as most of us here would like it NOT to be. That's how it is. We talk about a level playing field all the time here. And as long as we play nice, we absolutely guarantee it won't be a level playing field. I want to know where the scale is that WE can press OUR collective thumb down upon, to be "fair and balanced" to OUR side.

But at the same time I too hate the premise. Liberals are peace lovers, we believe in the good side in human nature. We believe that two humans that have a disagreement can negotiate and compromise and avoid all out war. But what throws a monkey wrench into that is when the other side purposely REFUSES to play along. Even if they know that overall things will be worse for everyone by their petulant behaviour. And then blame that worse situation using their propaganda outlets in the MSM on the other party. This will continue for the simple reason that it WORKS. How else is it possible that a flip-flopping ken-doll vulture capitalist like Mitt who represents the party that destroyed the economy ever be even within reach in the polling numbers?
