Ted Cruz: Transgender 'Bathroom Bills' Are 'Perfectly Reasonable'

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said Thursday that he supports North Carolina lawmakers' push to keep transgender people from using the bathroom that aligns with their gender identity.

Cruz said laws requiring people to use the restroom that corresponds to the sex on their birth certificate makes sense because "men should not be going to the bathroom with little girls," according to the Associated Press.

"That is a perfectly reasonable determination for the people to make," Cruz said during a pre-taped town hall with MSNBC on Thursday, according to the AP.

Cruz's comment echoes the reasoning North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) has used while scrambling to defend the sweeping anti-LGBT law he signed into law last month. State lawmakers passed the legislation in response to a Charlotte ordinance that expanded anti-discrimination protections to gay and transgender people and allowed people to use the restroom that aligns with their gender identity.

Just as we have to show ID to vote, we will have to show ID to use the bathroom. Perhaps the Secretary of Gender Control will issue Genitalia Confirmation cards. I hope these will have chips that can be read by the automated locks they plan to install on all bathrooms, or they will have to hire guards (armed of course!) to check the ID. Hey! Opportunity for full employment there. What a dream job, huh? Making people pull down their pants to see if their genitals match their ID cards. I hope they don't put photos on the ID cards, if you know what I mean. Think about that for a second. Have you ever had a driver's license where you were happy with the way your face looked?

Transgendered women who NOW look like men will be sharing the women's restroom with little girls! Christine Jorgensen, the first publically known transgender male to female, underwent corrective surgery in 1951. SIXTY some years later, some idiots think a law is needed to force transgenders to use the restroom of their gender at birth. How did we ever survive all this time? The stupidity behind this idea is amazing. Any man who dresses like a woman to sneak into a women's bathroom would be ARRESTED. He would probably be charged with some ordinance considering this as an act of a sexual deviant and the perpetrator could end up listed as a sexual predator. If there is a man that desperate to infiltrate the women's restroom, a law on paper is not going to discourage him. What man thinks he could get away with sneaking into a women's bathroom by CLAIMING he is TRANSGENDER. No man would. They would be taken into custody and required to PROVE they are transgender, going through some medical process OR seeking medical therapy. What man would undergo medical procedures, turn himself into a woman, just to sneak into the women's restroom....NO MAN WOULD.

At first the first couple images of the guy in the bathroom with the women (look like women to me) I thought it was him taking the picture of himself in a ladies' room while the females were looking like they had some kind of stink eye going on as if to say. "Really, dude? Is this what we have to live with now?" Maybe they were and I just didn't hae the context.

This is not true. Transgender people (just like anyone else) do not need to conform to any particular appearance.

Not even sure that your statement actually has any discernible meaning. That is to say, that one sex looks a certain way.

There are also more and more gender fluid people and others who reject the concept of the binary gender identity.

So why is it even an issue. IOW trans women will look like women in the ladies room. Unless you specifically know the person and they they are trans. I see Caitlyn Jenner in the ladies and I know but otherwise I just would not.

You are bringing in another issue. If someone is a woman and identifies as a woman and somehow strikes strangers as a man and try to throw her out of the ladies room, you have another issue.
