Parents of suspect in body parts case said they feared him

SEATTLE (AP) — The parents of a suspect in the dismemberment slaying of a Seattle nurse with three children sought a restraining order against him years ago, telling authorities they were afraid of him, court records show.

The mother and father of John Robert Charlton, 37, said in the filing that he had tried to provoke a fight with them while he was drunk and abusive in 2006.

Ray and JoAnn Charlton said their son had taken the movie "Hannibal" — about a serial killer — from a shelf and told his mother she should watch it and "beware."

They also said he had told them "life was putting too much pressure on him" and he felt he was becoming mentally unstable.

And also a sobering reminder that you really need to be careful when online dating and that there is no "crazy look". This guy looks like your average harmless guy. I just heard about this story this morning and it is truly chilling. Like right out of a sick serial killer movie. I wonder if there are any other victims. I can't imagine anyone who could do something like this hasn't done it in the past. I would be cross checking this guy with any missing persons in that area.

with thier 19 year old son who would get violent, then be held overnight , accessed, and then released because he didn't want to stay in a facility for mental health. He was not a candidate for a judge order institution stay, so he could leave.

Probably the killer parent's court order was their only way of protecting themselves and they couldn't do much for him . I am guessing and not sure of the law in other areas.

I understand the reason behind this, otherwise some parents could successfully commit an adult son for transgendering say or changing religions, smoking pot saying the person is an addict, or really anyone could claim someone else should be committed ...whatever.
Once you are an adult here you have to be court ordered to a facility after evaluation if it is not a voluntary admission and you would have to be quite incapacitated for a judge to rule to be committed to an institution
