Bill to return Nebraska to winner-take-all Electoral College method comes up short

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Martha Stoddard

LINCOLN — Republican lawmakers were frustrated once again in their long-standing fight to return Nebraska to a winner-take-all system for choosing presidential electors.

Legislative Bill 10 fell one vote short of the 33 needed to overcome a final-round filibuster Tuesday. The vote was 32-17.

The failure means that Nebraska remains as one of only two states allowing for a potential split of its Electoral College votes. The other is Maine.

Returning to a winner-take-all system has been a priority for the state GOP since Nebraska abandoned that method in 1991.

Our 2008 vote for Obama counted and helped him get the 1 EC vote from Omaha. After the 2010 census Bellevue was gerrymandered out of the Omaha and put in the Lincoln District.

I have not posted much today. I cracked a tooth at dinner last night. I'm on pain meds until I get a temp crown in the morning.

I was already fighting a bad cold. I won't be on much Thursday either.
