Bob Graham gets call from White House; word that declassification of secret 9/11 documents underway

After years of pushing to gain public release of 28 secret pages of a report on the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham said he got a call from the White House on Tuesday.

Graham told the Tampa Bay Times that Brett Holmgren, a senior policy adviser to the assistant to the president for Homeland Security, told him the declassification review of the documents withheld from a report issued by a Joint Congressional Commission in 2003 will soon be completed.

Graham, who asked the president to declassify the records more than two years ago, said he asked how soon he could expect a decision and was told “one or two months.” Graham was co-chairman of a joint congressional committee that investigated the attacks.

The 28 pages were classified at the request of the FBI. Graham has been pushing for release of the documents since 2011 when he learned that the FBI had failed to disclose part of its investigation that included reports that high-ranking Saudi Arabian officials provided financial aid and other help to the 19 hijackers who flew airplanes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. He says the FBI initially denied there were such reports but has since turned over 80,000 pages in a federal lawsuit seeking the release of all reports on the investigation.

Graham said he believes recent news reports on the secrecy surrounding the 28 pages, including a report Sunday on 60 Minutes, prompted the White House to react.

Bob Graham has had knowledge of what is in the pages for a very long time but has never been able to divulge their contents from what I understand. I've heard him comment on shows these past years and I think it's one of the main reasons he voted against the war. And this is information that was available to those who voted FOR the war too. I'm almost sure he's made this point in the past.

I wonder what's up! Sounds too good to be true so I'll try NOT to get my hopes up. I've stopped counting the hundreds of times when I thought something informative or helpful to "we the people" seemed about to happen only to find in the end that HOPING never actually did anything.

Obama has already endorsed Hillary, DWS and Patrick Murphy and IMO all are very DLC/Third Way Democrats so it doesn't seem like he would do ANYTHING to upset Hillary or her chances.

Oh well, since NY is a closed Primary state maybe he thinks it won't hurt her. Bernie and his policies weren't very well known back in March when the deadline for changing Party affiliation ended. Even FL's date was after NY's. Closed Primary states have ALWAYS disgusted me. I live in Florida and have never liked the process. I think it hurts most citizens regardless of who the candidate is.

"I believe the Bush administration in the first eight months considered terrorism an important issue but not an urgent issue," Clarke told the 10-member panel. ". . . I worked in a Sultanate as a Sr. IT Advisor. During one of my projects we were asked to archive and digitize documents, I came across the flight manifest after 9-11 that got the Sultanate's contingency back home during the Air Travel Ban. I have been arguing for fourteen years that the censorship of the Bush Administration conceals liability and enormous crimes, and that keeping the disclosures secret only ensures that the secrecy will be used against the Republican Party for decades to come....

... And now here we are, and all of a sudden this President says he's going to disclose some of the censorship in one or two months, which will give the disclosures five or six weeks to burn through the criminal elite of today's Republican Party like an outbreak of ebola, just before a contested convention which they long to malevolently influence.

And my dark prophecies will come true, with one important exception: I never suspected it would be my own side which uses the 9/11 coverup to destroy the Republicans. I always assumed it would be foreign nationals who would extort from them.
