(953 posts)I don't believe him either, but
I hope he's emphatic and gets out and stays out
If he is it's because he thinks they can't win this year
If nothing he is details oriented, and the GOP ideologically and logistically
has some cleaning up to do

Then he will accept the nomination.

Or, how to succeed in politics without really trying.
I will not accept if nominated, and will not serve if elected.

(953 posts)He's their go-to guy for an election they can win
and he doesn't want to ruin his career
But it also must be said, and he's made this point consistently, that
he's said the nominee should be put through the process of running.
Who can disagree with that one? The media, the travel, the endurance,
the scrutiny, the press, the platform, it takes time, months if not 2 years.
Candidates for POTUS in the modern era need to be battle-tested.
There is no substitute.

(10,857 posts)I seem to be the only person in the world who has bothered to look at what happens when you combine vote-theft with a contested Republican convention.
No matter what now, there is going to be a powerful right-wing third-party candidate in this race. They're either going to steal it from Trump, or find some other wingnut to run as the third party.
Using the vote theft methods already in place, the Republicans then carefully shift electoral votes around so that no candidate receives a majority of electoral votes.
The contested election then goes to the House of Representatives, but there's the thing: the Republican House is best at doing nothing and if they do not vote on a President they protect themselves while handing the Presidency to the Speaker of the House.
So no, Paul Ryan really doesn't want to run this year, because he's the only person in the picture who has a significant chance of winning without a single vote.
