Director Brennan: CIA Won't Waterboard Again — Even if Ordered by Future President

Source: NBC News

CIA Director John Brennan told NBC News in an exclusive interview that his agency will not engage in harsh "enhanced interrogation" practices, including waterboarding, which critics call torture — even if ordered to by a future president.

"I will not agree to carry out some of these tactics and techniques I've heard bandied about because this institution needs to endure," Brennan said.

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has said that if elected president, he'd authorize the use of waterboarding which was banned in 2009. Trump said the technique, considered torture under international law, and other methods he characterized as "a hell of a lot worse" would be used to extract information from potential terrorists.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who is gaining on Trump in some polls, has said he does not consider waterboarding to be torture. He said he would "not bring it back in any sort of widespread use." But as commander-in-chief he would "use whatever enhanced interrogation methods to keep this country safe."

Why wouldn't they just replace him with someone that would do those things if he won't?

It's not a solution saying he won't agree regardless of who is President. Saying "Hey, we won't do it again" doesn't help either. The solution would be to clean house and jail some people for violating human rights and make a clear stance it isn't tolerated by us at all, ever.

if he didn't know it was wrong before, he's an idiot. If he knew it was proscribed and did it anyways, he's guilty of crimes against humanity. Either way, mealy-mouth sell-outs like this schlub will whore themselves to any one who asks, let alone someone who "ordered him" to simply be himself. These kinds of false statements make the grandkids feel good. The rest of us judge him by his actions.

Brennan withdrew his name from consideration for Director of the Central Intelligence Agency in the first Obama administration over concerns about his support for transferring terror suspects to countries where they may be tortured while serving under President George W. Bush. Instead, Brennan was appointed Deputy National Security Advisor, a position which did not require Senate confirmation.

And that's what Trump will do. Create his own private army, separate from the US military. This force would be made up of thugs (disproportionately white men with man boobs) chosen for their unquestioned loyalty to the Leader.

All private armies.

Remember the stat that in some theaters, private army contractors outnumbered U.S. (actual) soldiers, and were/are higher paid, too.

Bush Syndicate: Been there, done that.

and the Joint Chiefs?

Please keep in mind that most of the torture was done by

the US military, not the CIA.

And the poster above is also correct to highlight the role of

private contractors - i.e., mercenaries
