Florida Will Vote This Year On Measure That Would Block Solar Leasing In The State
Source: Think Progress
Score one for the Koch brothers.
A measure that opponents say is intentionally confusing and will stifle solar growth was given the go-ahead by the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday. It will appear on the Florida ballot in November.
Environmental and solar advocates challenged the measure, titled, Rights of Electricity Consumers Regarding Solar Energy Choice, saying that it does not reflect any choice and does not create new rights. Sponsored by utility companies and other groups tied to the Koch brothers, the measure will prevent people from selling their electricity to third parties. This would effectively prevent solar leasing in the state, because under that system, an owner usually a solar company installs panels at a home and then sells the generated electricity back to the homeowner.
This amendment hoodwinks voters by giving the impression that it will encourage the use of rooftop solar when, in fact, it would do the opposite, Earthjustice attorney David Guest told the News Service of Florida.

(9,090 posts)like with any republican plans, rw radio will be an essential part of the sales and deception.
and those 5 unis are renting their mascots and logos to help the kochs and they are all great places to protest this shit.
all the fla environmentalists have to do is get on uni to commit to looking for apolitical alts to broadcast their sports and other will be shamed into following. advertisers will flee and the repubs could lose some of their biggest megaphones.
the global warming denial alone should make the association with rw radio prohibitive- especially in fla.

(10,497 posts)fine full of hydrocarbons and killer dispersant that never breaks down! We are talking about a lot of cash! Happens all of the time in this country.
The Plaintiffs Steering Committee (PSC) that represents all victims of the oil spill agreed to the BP Class Settlement after BP promised them up to $600,000,000 to agree, but only if the settlement trapped a secret high percentage of the victims in the class. The settlement also had to survive to the end without being overturned on appeal. Needless to say it is a shitty deal that they never tried to overturn.
Corporations buy off whoever they need to to make/save money. That's how it works in this country because we allow legalized bribery of our politicians!

(7,636 posts)The "Smart Solar" amendment was sponsored by the utility companies in a successful attempt to derail the "Solar Choice" amendment which would have allowed competition in the solar marketplace. The fact that there were two competing amendments with similar names discouraged a lot of people from signing the good amendment. They were afraid of signing the wrong one. The unpaid volunteers for solar choice were frequently unable to give a concise, accurate account of the difference between the two amendments and convince people that theirs was the good one.
I doubt that the utilities actually care about getting this misleading amendment passed- it has already served its primary purpose of sabotaging the campaign for solar choice.

(23,147 posts)I'll be sure to vote No. Kochs are very heavy handed in this state, always have been since at least t he Jeb years when they got him to let them pollute a pristine river, with no ramifications.
