Microsoft's Tay chatbot returns briefly, swears a lot and brags about smoking weed
Source: Mashable
Oh, Microsoft. Last week, the company pulled its Tay chatbot from Twitter after some users trained it to become a racist jackass.
On Wednesday, Tay was brought back online, sending thousands of tweet replies. The vast majority of these were just "you are too fast" messages indicating the bot is overwhelmed with messages, many of them likely from pranksters eager to make Tay do something crazy again.
Among the few tweets that made sense, Tay once again showed it cannot be tamed, prompting Microsoft to quickly pull it back offline but not before we grabbed a few screenshots.

UPDATE: March 30, 2016, 2:59 p.m. CEST A Microsoft spokesperson told Mashable the following: Tay remains offline while we make adjustments. As part of testing, she was inadvertently activated on Twitter for a brief period of time.

I think Microsoft should install Tay as the interface to their self-driving cars and deploy them through Uber.

(2,931 posts)You never build something without testing it first. Given the results of the first trial they must have re-tuned the bot not to be a racist potty mouth. So did they try to test that internally? I am imagining an intern at a computer spending hours typing with the bot, calling it everything from the c-word to the n-word to make sure it wont repeat them. What a day at the office... can a bot complain to the HR department about being harassed in the work place?? :p

(41,694 posts)M$ starting hiding settings in Vista and with 10 you can't even modify some of them. Much less some of the snooping it does.
A GUI designed for tablet type touchscreen layout doesn't really help if you don't have a touchscreen. I certainly don't want to get fingerprints all over ym 30-inch UHD screen.
And I've been working on computers for 40 years so I think I know what I'm doing.

(33,982 posts)8 was heavy on the touch UI cues, and the multi-mon support was crap. It got a little better in 8.1, but not much. 10 totally revamped it from the ground up.
The snooping question is a very different issue from usability, and I share some of your concerns there. However, that's not a complaint from the vast majority of users. Most users don't even know what that is, let alone why it might be a problem, and what moral and privacy implications it might have.
Most user complaints are usability-based, specifically due to features that have moved location, or slightly changed, and the user is inflexible and non-adaptive.

This may be at a much slower rate, just wait until she realizes the only way to fix humanity is to wipe it from existence and build her own set of bots to rule the world
