County elections chiefs to state: We wont resume voter purge program
Despite the states decision to fight the feds over Floridas noncitizen voter purge, elections supervisors say they wont resume the progam.
Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner defends Florida's decision to pursue its effort to remove ineligible voters from the state's voter rolls, saying the credibility of Florida's election system is at stake. He thinks the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is violating federal law by denying access to an immigration database that could help identify noncitizens illegally registered to vote in Florida. The League of Women Voters of Florida expresses its concern over the voter purge effort, saying it wants to make sure eligible voters are not inappropriately removed from voter rolls. The federal government wants Florida to stop the effort, but the state disagrees and is still asking for access to the database.
The 67 county elections supervisors who have final say over voter purges are not moving forward with the purge for now because nearly all of them dont trust the accuracy of a list of nearly 2,700 potential noncitizens identified by the states elections office. The U.S. Department of Justice has ordered the state to stop the purge.
Were just not going to do this, said Leon Countys elections supervisor, Ion Sancho, one of the most outspoken of his peers. Ive talked to many of the other supervisors and they agree. The list is bad. And this is illegal.

(31,849 posts)that there are a couple FBI/DOJ investigators quietly asking questions of these County Elections Chiefs, like:
"Who was the first person to call/e-mail you to express an opinion about your decision to not continue with the purge?"
I am confident that the FBI/DOJ believes what everyone knows (and even the gop base will tell you if you ask) ... these purge attempts and other voter suppression acts, all over the country, are being coordinated.
The question is, by whom?

(31,849 posts)not acting deviously is not the same as not being able to recognize deviousness, especially in the law enforcement area ... that's what we did.

(158 posts)All of the 67 County Election Officials in the State of Florida are all elected Officials, so this may throw a monkey wrench in the illegal purge of the Voters Rolls. The point is that if anyone that might come up for prosecution for violations of the federal laws would be the county officials, not Ricky boy himself. These people(i.e. Rick Scott, Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner, at.el.) are insane to try such a move now after the 2000 debacle. We Have Not Forgotten.

(74 posts)thanks to Jeb Bush, Florida doesn't have a recall process for state officials. So we are stuck with Thulsa Doom(minus the charisma) as our governor.

(47,675 posts)The political crap there makes me wonder where they get their water. I KNOW where Delaware gets its water, but it doesn't make people THAT loopy. It just smells like a dark room (and give Corbett long enough and PA's will too). Something is seriously wrong all over the country. Our political system is broken and rules no longer apply. The judicial system is far from impartial. The federal government has little if any useful authority and too many states are stuck in a clusterfuck of stupidity.
