Many people were injured in a blast on Sunday in the heart of the Turkish capital Ankara, local media reported, speaking of an attack.

Television reports said several vehicles were destroyed or damaged in the explosion, which comes just weeks after almost 30 people were killed in a car bomb attack targeting the military in the city on February 18.

3. Ankara explosion: 'Several killed and wounded after large blast' in centre of Turkish capital

Several people have been killed and an unknown number wounded after a large explosion was heard in central Ankara, local media have reported.

The attack was reported to have taken place next to a bus stop in the city while there were reports by NTV broadcaster that the attack was in fact a car bomb near Güvenpark in Kizilay.

The blast comes two days after the US embassy warned its citizens that there was information about a "potential terrorist plot to attack Turkish government buildings and housing located in the Bahcelievler area of Ankara".

The embassy warned its citizens to avoid the area. Ankara has been hit by three bombings in the last five months including the worst terror attack in October during which 103 people were killed.

A reporter just said that numerous vehicles are burning now including a bus. It appears that this is a VBIED. This happened during the rush hour in the most crowded place in Ankara. From what I can gather it happened near the bus stops which would be a slaughter. I hope this isn't the case.
