'They're shocked!' Obama mocks GOP establishment for handling of Trump

Source: USA Today

Obama called Trump "a distillation of what has been going on in their party for more than a decade," saying comparing establishment Republicans to Captain Louis Renault from the movie Casablanca.

"We're shocked someone is fanning anti-immigrant or anti-Muslim sentiment!" he said. "We're shocked! We're shocked that someone could be loose with the facts. Or distort someone's record. Shocked!

"How could you be shocked? This was the guy who was sure I was born in Kenya. And wasn't letting go," he said. "As long as it was being directed at me they were fine with it. It was a hoot — and suddenly they're shocked! That gambling's going on in this establishment," he said.

Obama said the GOP message during his presidency is to "deny the evidence of science" or to accuse the other side of treason.

I think the biggest bit of mainstream media denial is the idea that Trump is out of sync with most Republican voters or that there is much substantive difference in the actual policies between the GOP candidates. Indeed, from a pure policy perspective, Ted Cruz is probably more extreme in his views of the federal government.

He tells no lies in these statements.

The Republican Party is wallowing in the valley of comeuppence.

They have this big mirror in their face and they don't like what they see. Ha!

I in no way support him, but I see him as far less dangerous that the Theocratic Ted Cruz.

Thankfully Trump is showing his true colors during the campaign. If Cruz did the same it would be even worse.

Cruz wants a theocracy and I agree that is even worse than Trump. But in many ways it's terrifying that either one are as popular as they are.

they have to throw many of their own under the bus due to their projection - e.g., Cruz's birth and citizenship in Canada. In fact, some of the loudest anti-Obama GOPers over the past decade had one or both parents who were first generation immigrants (including Trump, whose mother was born in Scotland, Scalia, whose father was born in Sicily, Cuban-born Sununu, whose mother was from El Salvador, and even Rubio, where both parents were from Cuba and whose current plan would have kept his own parents out).

really understand what she was telling the GOP. It was powerful, but the GOP is so far gone now, they cannot correct themselves. Senator Mitch McConnell started the radical path, back when Obama was sworn in. He is the true SENILE radical individual responsible along with Speaker Boehner. They have destroyed the GOP.

And note how many national Republicans hitch themselves to the Trump clown car. Just watch.
