Democrat Barrett concedes Wisconsin recall election defeat
MILWAUKEE | Tue Jun 5, 2012 11:47pm EDT

MILWAUKEE (Reuters) - Democratic challenger Tom Barrett conceded Wisconsin's recall election to Republican Governor Scott Walker on Tuesday, saying he hoped the deeply divided state would now come together.

With 85 percent of the vote counted, Walker had about 55 percent of the ballots to 44 percent for Milwaukee Mayor Barrett.

"This has been the most amazing experience of our lives," Barrett told supporters. "What we have seen during the last sixteen months is this democracy come alive."

Barrett lost to Walker in the 2010 governor's election as well but will continue as mayor of Wisconsin's largest city, Milwaukee.

I can't express my opinion about this election or Mr Barrett's concession without using profanity, so I will refrain from saying anything more.

mad as hell at the outcome. This election was bought and paid for courtesy of Chief Justice Roberts and the decision on Citizen's United. We all need to do everything we can to ensure not only an Obama victory in November, but a Senate and House majority too. Citizen's United must be overturned if we have any hope of stemming the coming specter of a "Corporate States of America".

Every progressive in the county begged Harry Reid to filibuster that appointment....but the spine for that was not there....

Now we are reaping the the disaster that is the elections paid for by the conservative wealthy...

Idiocracy here we are...have another 72 oz. Mt. Dew.

rather than cooling his heels in FCI Oxford.

And does anyone wish someone like Russ Feingold were the challenger instead? Time to search for a stronger candidate for 2014.

It is more of a purple state. Democrats control the state Senate, and the Secretary of State and Superintendent of Public Instruction are both Democrats. Additionally, one of the state's US Senators is a Democrat.
