Weekly Address: The American Spirit of Innovation

Source: White House

In this week's address, the President discussed his upcoming visit to the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, where he will participate in a conversation about civic engagement in the 21st century and how we can use technology to tackle our toughest challenges.

The President noted that we've made significant progress over the past few years in using creative ideas and technology to improve the lives of Americans, recruiting some of the sharpest minds to re-imagine outdated systems and better deliver services.

That's why the President is going to South by Southwest – to build on that progress and ask some of our most creative thinkers and entrepreneurs from across the country to help us continue to solve problems and update our government to the standards of the 21st century.

Our sole dominance in Technology should have lasted another 20 years but greed gave it out prematurely.

Our Tech industry, built by American labor, could have continued to transition our countries economy. If corporations, many of which are basically mini fonts of capital, had not exited that capital and industry so rapidly in the early 2000s we would have likely had a 3% unemployment economy and rising wages for 20 years... that would have also likely led to dominance in the next revolution in energy technologies. We really hurt ourselves.

Pep talks are nice, but what we really need is a government that will protect American Innovation from the leeches who would capitalize it and sell it off prematurely.
