Thousands of supporters turn out for Sanders rally

Source: The Coloradoan

A line formed hours before the doors opened at 4 p.m., and Moby Arena's 8,745 seats were almost full by the time Sanders began speaking just after 7 p.m. — the only empty seats that remained were in the rafters.... Em Boyett, the first in line, arrived at Moby Arena at 7:30 a.m. Her friends joined her later. She is a sophomore at Colorado State University, and she said Sanders engages voters on issues other candidates don’t address.

“I just think he’s the best option for feminists...” Boyett said. “He’s trying to include people of color, trans people, queer people. He’s trying to put our issues in the front line. He’s trying to put this generation’s issues in the front line.”

Karen and Joe Warkentine, a couple from Greeley, said they are fans of many of Sanders' policies, including universal healthcare. Karen Warkentine laughed as she said they were among the only “oldies” waiting in the line.

“I’m choosing not to study history but to participate in it,” Joe Warkentine said.

12. A few things on the Trump rally ...

It was in Alabama. Trump is currently polling at 77% here. The Republican primary here went to Santorum in '12.

Several folks went out of curiosity (I know, they are my Democratic friends). We don't get many celebrities, whacko or not, here in Alabama. The Duck Dynasty guy would outdraw any politician here, trust me.

His speech wasn't even a speech. It was a 60-minute Don Rickles insult routine. It was just repeating the same things he has been saying, and rambled on. It was very unorganized and at least half the crowd was leaving after 30 minutes.

His legitimate supporters at the speech chanted "All Lives Matter" when a group of local college student (Alabama A&M - a historically black college) walked out with fists held in the air. They yelled "Go clean the bathrooms" as they walked by. I did see one Sander's supporter who had an awesome sign. Guy was middle-aged and had a "No Space For Hate" sign, with a picture of a rocket (Huntsville is a giant space/military town...we have NASA, Redstone Arsenal, etc...)

In short - I can guarantee the Trump speech has NOTHING in common with Senator Sander's speech. I haven't read the local paper this morning, but I doubt there is any quote as great as the one listed from the Sanders speech attendees.

The most surreal moment was when a plane flew overhead (the speech took place in a football stadium close to the H'ville airport) Trump yelled "Look out, it's ISIS!" then pretended to shoot the plane down with his fingers. Then he said "If that was ISIS, I would shoot them down so fast".

So we have lots of extreme right-wing evangelicals so don't put too much into comparing Trump's attendance numbers versus Sanders. That Sanders rally looked a lot better.

who come to hear him complain and hate. Bernie is a progressive and appeals to people who want someone who makes sense. Trump appeals to people who want to be told how to think.

...get in line and do as you are told by the Elites.

Hmmm...looks like these folks have different ideas!

Go Bernie!

Go Voters!

13. Cool. Has the campaign learned how to do voter registration themselves yet?

I hope someone from the local group brought a card table and a stack of Colorado voter reg forms.
