Whitman scorches Christie over Trump, prefers Hillary
Source: Newark Star-Ledger
Gov. Chris Christie's endorsement of Donald Trump is giving many people in New Jersey indigestion, but none more than former Gov. Christie Whitman, a Republican who has watched in horror as her party drifted rightward for the last decade.
I have a full column on Christie's shameless stunt coming tomorrow, but I wanted to share Whitman's quotes right away.
First, she says she's planning to vote for Hillary Clinton if Trump gets the nod. She's keeping her options open, in case we find out something new and horrible about Hillary. But that's her plan now:
"You'll see a lot of Republicans do that," Whitman told me. "We don't want to. But I know I won't vote for Trump."

Needless to say, Whitman was one of the "moderate" Republicans who was completely silent on the conservative shift of her Party until she left office...

(13,029 posts)Oh, please. Nothing about the fundamental doctrines of the Republican Party has today has changed one bit from when Whitman was governor. They have been racist, bigoted, war-mongering, anti-union, anti-tax, anti-poor, anti-immigrant, anti-intellectual, anti-environment, big-business fellating assholes since Reagan. She was a willing part of all that, and is fully complicit in what the GOP has become. Fuck her.

(13,029 posts)in any way in the last 35 years deserves the label "genteel". As noted, all such are complicit in what the Republican Party is and does. "Scum" would be a more appropriate label.

(42,715 posts)Christie is not a second banana type. He wants to be prosecutor in chief. He's a lock for Attorney General in a Trump adminsitration with a option for SCOTUS justice if/when a vacancy arises.
But the good news is that there isn't going to be a Trump administration.

Her second turdly act was to begin the practice of not funding the pensions. That brought us to the state's financial disaster we now experience.

(7,299 posts)Hillary is perfectly positioned to benefit from moderate Republicans disaffected by the rise of Trump. The Republican's foolish rhetoric has created a Frankenstein that will swing the election to Hillary. This is lining up quite well.

(13,029 posts)of how many "moderates" there actually are who can look at themselves in the mirror every day and still be associated with the Republican Party. Who the fuck are these people, and exactly who were they going to vote for in the absence of Donald Trump?

(1,727 posts)The fact that Hillary appeals to anybody in the Republican establishment should give pause to anybody who earnestly believes that she's a real progressive.

(7,299 posts)Of course there is such a thing as a moderate Republican, your broad brush aside.

(1,752 posts)of people happens when they have a "what side are you on" moment and see that maybe some things they used to believe are not accurate - Maybe its some personal experience that gets you to reassess, or maybe (as in this case) the behavior is just so over the top that a normal person cant make excuses anymore. Until then, you tend to be stuck in your same habitual thought patterns. Such is human nature.
When you have your Catholic, right to lifer, Rush & fox news listening Mom telling you that she cant tolerate Trump or ANY of them (as mine recently told me) you know somethings up - maybe the house of cards built on right wing propaganda is starting to crumble? That should be cause for celebration.
Besides, were gonna need a lot of crossover republican voters to make up for you lot who are going to throw a tantrum and stay home and not vote because your guy (or gal) didn't get the dem nomination. Only being partially facetious there.

(930 posts)Really? (And notice, that statement is not attributed to her directly.)
She's one of them.
This is corporate mediaspeak, loud and f*cking clear.

Trump is in the best position to deliver something (e.g., V.P., cabinet member, director of RNC) to the governor. Whitman is so cold to be thinking of herself and the NJ GOP. /s/

(15 posts)He is just doing this so Trump will pick him as VP. As long as he is still in the public eye, he can use his experience to run again and again until he wins or tires out. Expect Christie to be a continual candidate for the next 2-4 election cycles. As for Whitman, she is a moderate and her comments here reflect many moderate Republicans view of Trump. For those who hate Hillary, think about 4 seats on the SCOTUS and vote for who ever wins the Democratic nomination. This is no time to take your vote and throw it away in some silly protest vote.
