Poll: Clinton leads Sanders in Massachusetts

By Nick Gass

02/25/16 11:18 PM EST

Hillary Clinton's primary prospects in New England are not nearly as bleak as her distant finish to Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire might suggest, if the latest WBUR poll from Massachusetts released Thursday is any indication.

The former secretary of state claimed 49 percent of support among voters likely to cast their ballots in the Democratic primary on Super Tuesday, while Sanders came in with 44 percent, still inside the poll's margin of error. Just 2 percent said they do not know whom they will support or refused to answer the question.

The gender gap that has been at play in other states continues in Massachusetts, with 56 percent to 35 percent of likely women voters backing Clinton and 55 percent to 40 percent of men supporting Sanders.

While voters said they trust Clinton more on issues related to foreign policy (70 percent to 22 percent), working with Congress to get things accomplished (54 percent to 33 percent) and "keeping America safe" (56 percent to 29 percent), they indicated that they trusted Sanders more on addressing income inequality (61 percent to 30 percent) and reforming the campaign finance system (56 percent to 25 percent).

Here's a suggestion:

Hillary shill uses loaded poll to suggest her laughable foreign policy record, isn't.

That's plain crazy. Shows people are not doing anything but reading the headlines.

She orchestrated taking out the central government of Libya, a county that had done away with its nuclear weapons program as part of making an approach to detente with the US, and turned a basically middle and rural class country with free healthcare, free education, and a semblance of equal rights for women into a civil war hellhole with ISIS bases a few hundred miles from countries like Italy. But, hey, Israel was happy to have one less stable Arab state, so that's all right then.

She voted for the Iraq war.

She and Bill clobbered Haiti's economy with World Bank crap.

Hillary in charge of foreign policy is a major reason to work against her ever getting near being President.

It just astonishes me how this spectacularly incompetent person somehow has managed to appear qualified.

But yeah, we do have a lot of latte liberals in the mix of this state.
I've yet to see a single Hillary yard sign.

Bernie can win MA!

Aww, I prefer it when people leave it unedited so my reply makes sense. But of course I correct my own whenever I see them.

a +60 points advantage. The huge gap in the generational support was either not mentioned or not polled.

How can SO many people who have a negative view of Hillary still support her?
Even republicans will tell you that their only criticism of him are his policy goals, not his persona

Look at the dates of the polls you linked to. The oldest one is plus 7 Sanders. The next oldest is a tie and the newest has Clinton plus 5.

vermont and WI. Some are a little closer than >99% clinton, but the only states that has bernie over clinton are VT and WI.

He doesn't put them all in one page unfortunately. You have to select each race and look at the forecast.

In 2008, despite its two senators (Kennedy and Kerry) and governor (Deval Patrick) endorsing Obama; Hillary won MA by almost 10%. If Sanders wasn't from nearby VT, I would say that Hillary would win MA easily. All things considered, I think that whoever wins MA will do so by a narrow margin. Both candidates are popular in the state.
