Mothers of Argentina's 'disappeared' reject timing of Obama visit
Published 19/02/2016
Mr Obama is set to arrive on March 23 for a two-day visit where he will meet with President Mauricio Macri.
The following day marks the 40th anniversary of the military coup that began Argentina's 1976-1983 military dictatorship, in which thousands of suspected leftists were seized, tortured and secretly killed.
Nora Cortinas is a founding member of the group that has campaigned to find people forcibly "disappeared" by the dictatorship.
She told local radio Friday that she's "not amused" that Mr Obama's visit will coincide with the coup anniversary because the US facilitated dictatorships in South America during the 1970s.

(5,902 posts)My guess is that Obama felt he had to placate the Miami exile mafia.
It'll be sad to see him praise "Argentina's tremendous progress under President Macri's leadership" when inflation has zoomed from 23% to 38%, the private-sector has laid off 45,000 people in just two months, the country's going into debt just to pay vulture funds their 1,000% payout demands, and GDP - which was still growing by 2.8% when Cristina Kirchner left office - is falling by at least 3% (per Bloomberg).
As a former community organizer who saw first hand the effects of globalization, deregulation, and austerity on industrial communities, Obama should carefully consider whether Macri is someone he wants to heap praise on. Even Macri's wife, Juliana, is a problem: her family's garment business, "Cheeky," has been indicted for running a sweatshop - including child labor.

(531 posts)... Henry Kissinger to the Argentine high court, then I'd be fine with that.
But I suspect it won't be happening. Ever.
