What’s known about Colombia’s mysterious gay police prostitution ring
Posted by Taran Volckhausen on Feb 19, 2016

Colombia’s new chief of police could probably not have picked a worse moment for promotion; The institution is facing disturbing allegations over the existence of a mysterious police cadet prostitution ring catering to top officials.

Trying to protect the image of the institution, President Juan Manuel Santos has called the existence of a “Community of the Ring” as the alleged prostitution ring’s been called “gossip.”

However, this gossip has been coming out of the mouth of several former police cadets and officials and has already cost the positions of both the vice-interior minister and the chief of police. And today the Minister of Defense also said that they have evidence that the prostitution ring at one time existed.

The little that is known about the Community of the Ring are the witness accounts that began resonating in 2006 and involve high-ranking police officials and former members of congress.

Journalist who spurred resignation of police chief and minister forced to resign herself
Posted by Adriaan Alsema on Feb 18, 2016

The journalist whose reporting on alleged sexual misconduct within Colombia’s National Police spurred the resignation of the police chief and the vice-Minister of the Interior resigned on Wednesday.

Vicky Davila, the editor in chief of radio station La FM and one of Colombia’s most famous journalists, was asked by media corporation RCN to step down for releasing a video in which then-Senator Carlos Ferro was having an explicitly sexual conversation with a policeman.

Davila had published the video as evidence of the existence of an alleged male prostitution ring within the police that reportedly caters to top officials and lawmakers.

Ferro, who became Vice-Minister of the Interior in 2014, resigned from his post on Tuesday, hours after his secret sexual orientation had become public. The former member of the administration of President Juan Manuel Santos is married with two children.

Colombia’s police chief resigns amid piling claims of sexual misconduct
Posted by Adriaan Alsema on Feb 17, 2016

Colombia’s national police director resigned on Wednesday following months of accusations of sexual harassment and the existence of a male prostitution ring within the institution.

Politicians, journalists and other critics had been calling for the resignation of General Rodolfo Palomino since December when stories began leaking over the married police chief’s alleged sexual harassment of a male subordinate.

Since then, accusations of fraud and corruption, and the existence of a prostitution ring catering to top officials and politicians, had made Palomino’s position untenable.

Nevertheless, President Juan Manuel Santos has so far refused to fire the top police chief. Instead, the president announced a commission to investigate the accusations. But when Vice-Interior Minister Carlos Ferro resigned Tuesday after a video emerged linking him to the alleged gay prostitution ring, Palomino’s resistance to give up his post ended.
