Sanders Takes National Lead Over Clinton For First Time In Major Poll

Source: Talking Points Memo:

By Conor Dinan, February 18, 2016, 10:31 PM EST,..

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has overtaken former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as frontrunner in the national Democratic primary, according to a Fox News poll released Thursday.

The Fox News poll showed Sanders beating Clinton by 47 percent to 44 percent. This indicates that the Vermont Senator has closed the 12-point gap separating them when the same poll was conducted in January, when Clinton led by 49 percent to 37 percent.

This is the first major poll to suggest that he has taken the lead over the longtime frontrunner who came into the 2016 cycle as the presumptive nominee. Sanders has enjoyed a surge in support that has lasted for at least a month, as he won the New Hampshire primary and narrowly lost to Clinton in Iowa.

The Fox News poll was carried out Feb. 15-17 by live telephone interview. Pollsters surveyed 429 respondents, with a margin of error of 4.5 percentage points.

Fox news poll? Please, it's guaranteed to be made up. They probably called 5 employees of fox news. Of course it's gonna say that Clinton is losing. They are more afraid of her than Sanders.

I think the world of Bernie Sanders and in the world I want to live in... he'd win. I think against a repub he probably will win. But Clinton has the resume. She will appeal to all women not just democrats.

When someone reputable releases a poll that says Sanders is over Clinton I'll cheer. Til then..

After seeing how bought out Hillary is on every topic I've googled her on except planned parenthood, I would say the nation is correctly waking up.

That she was benefiting from the for profit prison industry and only took it out of her super pack at the end of October(she had the biggest for profit prison industry lobbyists in it and only took it out because she was exposed badly for it in Huffington Post) I'm convinced that there is no great horrible industry she isn't a minion for. I mean, let's get it right - She is for fracking, fossil fuels(still in her super pacs), the war industry(still in her super pacs), the insurance industry (still in her super pacs), Wall Streets biggest banksters and hedge funds (still in her super pacs), she helped write the first TPP as well as was a part of the mass incarceration laws in this country, and has profited off of immigrant deportations (their private prisons were also in her super pacs until October 27th.)

There is no chance she's going to do anything about campaign finance when she's one of the two biggest recipients of it (her and Jeb).

Aside from Roe Vs. Wade and gay rights, I don't see where she can be called a progressive. I bet she'd go against them for a lobbyist who pays her enough.

Bernie Sanders Will Ban Fracking. Hillary Clinton 'Sold Fracking to the World'
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/h-a-goodman/bernie-sanders-will-ban-fracking-_b_9156182.html

"According to Reuters, "the Wall Street Journal reported that the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation and the Clinton Global Initiative have accepted large donations from major energy companies Exxon Mobil and Chevron." Clinton's foundations also accepted money from an office of the Canadian government linked to promoting Keystone XL.

For some reason, many Democrats overlook the fact that Clinton promises to uphold a progressive value system, while simultaneously accepting donations from corporations and governments working to undermine these principles. "

"With Hillary Clinton, not only will she accept money from oil, gas, and coal companies (unlike Sanders), but Clinton will accept money from virtually any corporation. The money trail speaks volumes, especially when Mother Jones writes that one environmental activist told Clinton, "I'm disappointed about the answer you gave to climate change... I'm wondering if your answer... is due to contributions from the fossil fuel industry to your campaign."

Finally, don't take the word of a writer who believes Bernie Sanders is a once in a lifetime candidate. Experts in the field of environmental protection and the dangers of fracking have highlighted the problems with Hillary Clinton's climate plan. A POLITICO article titled The holes in Hillary's climate plan explains why Clinton's fracking dollars might lead to sub-par record on climate change as president:"

When you talk about Hillary appealing to ALL WOMEN, that's just not true. Bernie won NH with more women voting for him than her. Bernie also appeals to many Republicans, a lot of whom are women. He is also growing in support among Latinos and AFrican Americans.

Hillary is the one that has a harder time against Republicans than Bernie on almost every poll! The tide is turning. My fear is that she tries to steal the Primary with the Super Delagates and destroys our Party and its hopes of the Presidency!

But I live with one and work with many others. To my knowledge, they are all going for Bernie. The media has largely focused on the college aged cohort -- but the Gen Xers are going to go Bernie, big time. Bernie's candidacy is in large part our coming of age, the culmination of twenty-five years worth of waiting for this moment as he encapsulates each of the important issues that kept many of us up, late into the night, with our angst and anti-establishment ideals.

Actually, upon reflection, I wanted to say that President Obama's election was the beginning of age as well. It will continue.

I'm not impressed by nonscientific polls, particularly from Fox, but Sanders' path to the nomination has never been other than a long, slow slog. This poll might just have been DUed, or be a prank aimed at hurting Clinton.

But even given Sanders' terrific progress, this is beginning to be the time we'd need to see him closing the gap, or even leading in some polls.

Which media has said they were tied when a poll had Bernie 2 pts down, but says he's ahead when he's 3 pts up? Then if you want to confirm bias, you'd also have to find other examples where the same media called someone ahead when s/he was ahead by 2 points and/or called it as a tie when someone was ahead by 3 pts.

As for Sanders supporters, like Hillary supporters, they are individuals. There's no hypocrisy unless the same supporter takes the two contradictory positions.

Many years ago, I reacted to a Fox poll much the same way some people hear are: How can you believe a Fox poll isn't a lot of baloney?

The fact is that Fox polls over the years have delivered bad news to GOP candidates and generally fall in line with other polls. While Hannity and O'Reilly may be bald faced liars posing as journalists, the public opinion gatherers seem to be one part of the operation that works as it should.

There is, however, a valid point made by some residents of Camp Weathervane that the poll is in fact a statistical tie. That's fair enough; it is. As a die hard Sandernista, I feel the Bern more acutely from this poll, I admit, and I was brimming with pride earlier in the week when Bernie came within two points of the corporate Democrat in another poll. However, both of these polls show statistical ties. That's still good news for our cause.
