Kentucky Senate votes to create separate marriage forms for same-sex couples

Source: Associated Press

Kentucky’s Senate approved a bill on Thursday that creates different marriage license forms for same-sex and heterosexual couples.

The primary purpose of the legislation was to remove the names of county clerks from marriage licenses – a response to the controversy surrounding Rowan County clerk Kim Davis and her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

But the Republican-controlled Senate amended the bill as a way to show its support for marriage between a man and a woman, with one Republican senator saying any form that did not include the words “bride” and “groom” risked being disrespectful to the “traditional family”.

Former Democratic governor Steve Beshear changed the marriage license form in 2015 after same-sex marriages became legal, removing “bride” and “groom” and replacing it with “first party” and “second party”.

Why else would you do it?

I can't help hoping these issue that are running 60-40% against them are going to act as an anchor for the Republican candidates in the coming election.

They lost the gay marriage war, 60% strongly support a woman's right to chose, 2:1 support a pathway to citizenship for illegals,
most Republicans support wage standards........See where this is going?

12. Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell are Kentucky's senators

Paul Ryan is a Congressman from Wisconsin who serves as Speaker of the House. Except for a year as a marketer for his family's construction company, his entire career revolves around far-right politics.

Rand Paul is a Senator from Kentucky. Before he got elected to Congress, he was an eye doctor.

It is easy to confuse them because they're both fucked in the head, but they are different people.

The lower courts will issue a stay and the Supremes will refuse to hear the case, no matter who is part of it. They themselves have already made this a settled matter of law.

This is horrible pandering to the rabid conservatives and they're doing something they know will never pass muster rather than doing something useful.

These f***ing assholes just keep getting things wrong. If I hear one more idiotic statement about traditional marriage from these fools... I'm going to explode. Members of the LGBT community should not be segregated from the general population in any manner. As a straight person, I prefer partner over bride and groom... how archaic.

I live in Kentucky and while I realize there is stupid everywhere, there is a special kind of stupid in the state legislature. Planning on moving soon... I know there are idiots everywhere but at least, it won't be these idiots.
