Pennsylvania's Embattled Attorney General Won't Run Again

Pennsylvania's embattled attorney general said Tuesday she will not seek a second term, facing pressure from within her own party after being hobbled for months by criminal perjury charges and the suspension of her law license.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane announced the decision in her hometown of Scranton just hours before a deadline to submit signatures to make the primary ballot.

Kane, who narrowly survived a Senate vote last week to remove her from the office she has held since 2013, did not mention the charges. Rather, she said must be a "mother first" to her two teenage sons.

"While this was not an easy decision for me, while I love Pennsylvania, I love my sons first," Kane, the first woman and first Democrat elected to the office, told reporters. "I am a mother first and foremost. Because at the end of my life, I hope that history judges me well, but that's for time to tell. I hope more that God and my sons judge me well."

1. Good decision on her part

If Kane were to run for re-election, the AG's post would certainly go to a sexist repuke male. This way, a real man (as ppposed to a repunk), John Morganelli, can run for AG and likely win.

who is also female and a Pennsylvanian is not embarrassed. She has hung in there and refused to slink off after being pilloried for... I've never quite figured out what (yes, I know the charges, I'm just not convinced they have merit). And I don't even agree with her pursuit of porngate.

How are you not convinced the charges have merit? Are you saying she was railroaded by the state supreme court on false charges for political reasons?

6. I Haven't Heard

any explanation of what she did that was so heinous. All I've heard is what the actual charges are. People get charged with stuff all the time, that doesn't make it true. Her license to practice was yanked before she was proven guilty of anything.

The state Supreme Court is filled with Repubs, Kane is a Democrat. This is PA.
