Refusing to sit on lead, Trump gets bitter in Republican debate

Source: Reuters

Donald Trump, his face red with emotion, lashed out at rivals Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz on Saturday at the most acrimonious debate to date between Republican presidential candidates, shouting insults and casting aside a pledge to be more measured.

The New York billionaire went into the CBS debate with a head of steam, having won New Hampshire last Tuesday and holding a big lead in polls in South Carolina a week before Republicans vote on Feb. 20.

Rather than play it safe, Trump responded to every comment leveled his way, interrupted his opponents at will and called them liars repeatedly in an emotional outburst that could raise more questions about whether he has the temperament to serve in the White House.

He made his most blistering attacks against Bush and his brother, former President George W. Bush, who has many admirers in the Republican establishment.

Trump blasted Bush's brother for launching the Iraq war in 2003 over claims, later proven false, that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction.

"A big, fat mistake," said Trump, noting that the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks had also occurred on Bush's watch.

"George Bush made a mistake," Trump thundered. "We all make mistakes. But that one was a beauty ... They lied! They said there were weapons of mass destruction. And there were none."

6. Trump is grabbing the left on this issue

Now he has the older white vote, he will make noises to the Fundamentalists,
and liberal noises to the left. By election day he will stand a reasonable chance
of winning.

The article uses the word 'temperament'. Exactly. No one should have to question
that aspect of a presidential candidate. He's more like Scalia than a president.

We are in for a rough time.

He doesn't have the vote of any half-reasonable American. I still think he will drop or switch to independent, either way the republican party is doomed. Thanks for the show Trump, how about spilling the real dirt from Florida?

as there are many Democrats who are sick and tired of the Democratic Establishment.
They are the ones who will continue to vote for Trump. We will continue to vote for
Sanders. The similarities between Sanders and Trump stop here, of course.

3. I watched this debacle more because of Scalia than interest in Trump BUT

you could feel the shock and awe in the room as Trump said those fateful words.

911 happened on Bush's watch, more specifically because his people ignored the warnings being sent up the ladder by remnants of Clinton's security apparatus BECAUSE it was Clinton's people sending the warnings.

I think it was Rubio who claimed 911 happened because Clinton hadn't given the go-code to kill Osama, a claim featured in some anti-Clinton tv film years ago. By that time I was laughing too hard to even pay anymore attention.

The election contest this year is between Sanders and Hillary. The other side is doa.
