It's been a topic of discussion for a couple of days out here in Oregon, that Cliven Bundy
was planning to leave Bunkerville, NV (where else could he live, really?) and visit
Burns.

I said to my wife, "He'd better be careful. He's leaving his stronghold base of support,
and who knows what sealed federal paper he's got hanging on him?

Five hours later he was taken into custody at the Portland airport.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Cliven kind of came into my notice when the refuge occupation started right after New Year's.
I had read, sort of vaguely, that there was standoff in Nevada that got pretty ugly, but nothing
that I had read in the last few weeks about any warrants that were publicly known of.

But absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence, right? Sounds like there is a backstory here.

Cheers!

These guys are Mormons, too. Check out "Deseret" sometime on google. Here's the wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Deseret Interesting reading about the history of the Mormons and their roots.

Also, these guys are apparently affiliated (if not a part of) the Oath Keepers and other anti-government militia groups.

56. Ammon is an Ancient Israeli name and used in the book of Mormon
Thu Feb 11, 2016, 11:14 AM
Feb 2016

When Lot had sex with his daughters and they each had a child, one was name Ammon. He became the founder of the Ammonite people who are mentioned in the old Testament as a people close to but also an enemy of Ancient Israel and Judea:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammon

Thus the name is biblical and has nothing to do with Ammunition.

In the book of Mormon it is name of one of the heroes of that book. For background the Nephi were a "Light skin" race of ancient Israelis who left the Book of Mormon for Joseph Smith to find and translate and then publish in 1830. The Lamanites were a dark skin people also from ancient Israel but who had been "Cursed" and later wiped out the Nephi.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamanite

Anyway here in Ammon as he is told about in the book of Mormon:

In the Book of Mormon, Ammon(/ˈæm.ʌn/[1]) is the leader of a Nephite expedition from Zarahemla, sent to discover the fate of Zeniff and his people who have not been heard from for 75 years. Zeniff and his followers left Zarahemla and travelled to Nephi, their ancestral home, which was then in the possession of the Lamanites. Ammon is not a Nephite by birth but a descendant of Zarahemla and thus a Mulekite.[2] This may have contributed to his expedition, not knowing the actual route to Nephi.[3]

Ammon and his men discover the descendants of the people of Zeniff, who had successfully colonized Nephi but were then enslaved by the Lamanites. Zeniff's grandson Limhi rules under the Lamanites and initially imprisons Ammon. Upon learning who Ammon is, he releases him and rejoice in his arrival. Ammon, Gideon, and King Limhi devise a plan to escape from the Lamanites, wherein they make the Lamanite guards drunk. The plan is successful and Ammon leads them back to Zarahemla.[4]

Prior to their escape, Ammon teaches the people of Limhi the famous sermon of King Benjamin and helps convert them to the gospel. However, when the people desire baptism, Ammon refuses to perform the ordinance, "considering himself an unworthy servant".[5] The reason for his apprehension is not given, and the people wait until they reach Zarahemla to be baptised by Alma the Elder, who was previously a priest among them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammon_(Book_of_Mormon_explorer)

Thus Ammon is a popular name among Mormons.

Thu Feb 11, 2016, 03:26 PM
Feb 2016

First you must understand that Ancient Egyptian, Aramaic, Arabic and Hebrew are all closely related languages, closer to each other then Italian, Spanish and French are to each other. Thus a lot of sentence structure and words are very similar in each language, with many difference more like dialects then actual different words.

Aramaic was used in parts of the New Testament for Aramaic was the language in popular usage in Palestine before the Arab Conquest, but after the Arab Conquest Arabic became the language not only of Arabia, but the Near East and Egypt (Thus was more a change in writing then any real change in language for the languages are all that close).

Given that background the Jewish word "Amen" is best translated as "So be it". It effect when you say "Amen" you are saying "The end" to the pray.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amen

Ammon, as used by ancient Egyptians meant "The Hidden one" and was the name of the Chief God of Ancient Egypt:

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/01430d.htm

Thus the words are similar, but appear to be derived from different Semitic words, thus giving some people the idea that Amen is derived from Ammon. Scholars who have looked at both words just can NOT make such a connection for both appear to be words that even in ancient times meant different things.

One source of this confusion is transliteration, the translation of one language to another when the two languages use different alphabets. For example when a Slavic name ending with the meaning of "of" (as in From, of New York City, meaning someone from the City of New York) is translated into English from Russian, it goes from the Cyclic Alphabet to the Latin Alphabet and comes out with a "sky" at the end of the name.

On the other hand the same name in Polish, Polish uses the Latin Alphabet, are translated unchanged and thus end in the "ski". Is there any real difference it that ending of a name? No both mean "of" (like the German "von" means "of" but the Slavs put it at the end of the name instead of before the name) but when translated into English the Russian end in y the Polish ends in i. The reason for this is Polish uses the Latin Alphabet and thus no need to translate each letter of a name, while the Russians use the Cyclic alphabet and thus when translated into English you not only have to translate the word, but also each letter for the Russians use a different alphabet.

http://www.polishroots.org/Research/SurnameSearch/Surnamesendings/tabid/118/Default.aspx

In the case of Semitic names, Hebrew uses a phonetic alphabet, the Ancient Egyptians used hieroglyphics. This leads to same words used on both languages being translated into English differently and at other times as the same word.

Then you have the problems of words pronounced the same but derived from different sources, for example in English, Wood and Would, there, they and their, weather and whether, Well and While. The words are pronounced the same but have completely different meanings (and if you ever read US Civil War letters home, you realized how recent most words have assumed their present spelling, Sir Samuel Johnson, the author of the first English Dictionary made the comment "That it was a sign of a lack of Education to be only able to spell a word one way" and that was the rule while into the days of Free Public Education (but since the Civil War how to spell words have become more rigid).

You also have the problem of one word being used for two purposes in other languages. The Classic example is "Of". In English "of" can mean by or from. Thus Karl Marx's famous comment about "Dictatorship of the Proletariat", did he mean rule BY the Proletariat or rule OVER the Proletariat? you can make both argument (and it appears that is what Marx wanted, for he wrote in English, in many ways Marx wanted BOTH, not only over but also by the proletariat). "Of" can mean by, from or over in English. Same word, three different meaning,

Thus to say Amen came from the Egyptian god Ammon is assuming that the words are the same, when there is good evidence that the words are not (more like "Wood" and "would" not "of&quot . Both words in ancient times were used in different context, Amen as an ending (So be it), Ammon as a proper name (The Hidden One) which indicate even in ancient times they meant different things (more"Wood" and "would" as oppose to "of&quot . That is what most scholars view these two words today. You have some you say they are the same word, but the support for that position is poor and as such NOT the opinion of most scholars.

Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher who touched off one armed showdown with federal authorities and applauded another started in Oregon by his sons, was arrested late Wednesday at Portland International Airport and faces federal charges related to the 2014 standoff at his ranch.

He faces a conspiracy charge to interfere with a federal officer -- the same charge lodged against two of his sons, Ammon and Ryan, for their role in the Jan. 2 takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Burns. He also faces weapons charges.

The Bundy Ranch Facebook page reported Cliven Bundy was surrounded by SWAT officers and detained after his arrival from Nevada.

Cliven Bundy flew into Portland International Airport Wednesday night and was arrested.

According to the Multnomah County Jail, the 74-year-old Bundy was booked into jail at 10:54 p.m.
...
Right now the charges against him aren't clear, but he is being held on a U.S. Marshals' hold.

In a news release late Wednesday, the FBI said that Bundy was taken into federal custody. The agency said that more information on the charges against him is expected to be released Thursday morning.

They say he faces conspiracy to interfere with a federal officer - which would be the same charge his two sons Ammon and Ryan are facing for their alleged role in the January 2 takeover of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

The FBI has not released information on what charges the elder Bundy faces. He's due in court later this afternoon.

This couldn't have turned out better! And we get the bonus of hearing what charges the FBI has for Cliven this afternoon. I might have to do a summer trip out to their ranch in Nevada to take pictures of what an American welfare recipient's property looks like.

Heck with waiting for all that. I'm going to take the day off to watch this unfold on television and celebrate!
