Pennsylvania attorney general survives vote to remove her

Source: Seattle PI

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania's embattled attorney general survived a Senate vote to remove her from office on Wednesday as all but one of her fellow Democrats stood by her, defeating a resolution that said her lack of a valid law license had rendered her unable to perform her official duties.

The 29-19 vote fell several votes short of the two-thirds required in the 50-seat Senate under a provision of the state constitution that gives the chamber the ability to remove elected civil officers without going through the House-initiated impeachment process.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane has been without a valid law license since October and is defending herself against criminal allegations she leaked secret grand jury material and lied about it. She has been dismissive of the Senate process, saying it violated the state constitution as well as the will of voters who elected her more than three years ago. Her spokesman said she was preparing a statement in response to the vote.

While the Senate was debating the resolution at one end of the Capitol, the House was voting 170-12 to authorize the Judiciary Committee to recommend whether Kane should be impeached. If the House does impeach her, a trial on her removal would then occur in the Senate.

Senate Democrats argued there was not much evidence her suspension has kept the 800-plus-employee agency from operating properly and warned removal would have set a dangerous precedent, giving the chamber the ability to take out office holders with scant evidence and on short notice.

I imagine that she will get some support here because she is a democrat, but in my opinion this is one of those cases where just about everyone here would be calling for her removal if she was a republican.

She broke the law, and then started this whole porn email scandal to distract from her behavior.

the misogyny she has uncovered goes only partially exposed

and they have won the day without allowing her to tell her side of the story.

She's made tactical errors independent of the criminal charges

and meanwhile a few judges have been removed, and a couple of the
lawyers have been hired by the Phila District Attorney, who is incredibly
a fellow Democrat and is also at odds with her. See today's Philly Inquirer

It almost seems more a war of regional and historical judicial power,
generation after generation. She shook up a hornet's nest that was very big.

My state of Pa is in total failure mode. Stay away!

We have yet to pass a budget for last year.
We lag the nation in job creation. 49th
Our infrastructure is failing.
Our school funding is being cut while corporate taxes are also cut.
Our schools are failing. (Philadelphia has a 50% drop out rate and is funded 6 grand per student less than the suburbs)
Our credit rating is falling like a rock
We have a budget deficit
We have a 54 billion pension bomb

My state was totally run by republicans for the last four years. Wolf a Democrat is now our governor. But the legislature is still republican controlled.

We have no budget or solutions to our many problems yet these fing scum waste time and money on a vote they knew they would lose. These people make me puke in my mouth.
