Bernie Sanders Pulls In Quick $5.2 Million After New Hampshire Win

Source: WSJ

By REBECCA BALLHAUS

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders raised $5.2 million in the 18 hours since the polls closed Tuesday night in New Hampshire, his campaign said, in the wake of a primary in which he beat rival Hillary Clinton by about 20 percentage points.

That stunning figure is a quarter of what Mr. Sanders raised in the entire month of January, when he outpaced Mrs. Clinton’s fundraising for the first time. It’s also more than the amount that former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley raised over the course of his entire campaign, before quitting the race last week.

In his victory speech on Tuesday, Mr. Sanders said he was holding a fundraiser “right here, right now, across America.” He asked his audience to donate “$10 bucks, $20 bucks, or $50 bucks” to help him “take the fight to Nevada, South Carolina and the states on Super Tuesday.”

The campaign said the average donation in the last 18 hours was for $34. Mr. Sanders’s fundraising has relied largely on small donors, with 74% of his donations in 2015 coming from donations of $200 or less.

Now we know why Act Blue was down. At $34 per donation, that is 152,941 individual donations. I wonder how many checks are in the mail from this?

She has been berning through money at a much faster pace than Bernie, and yet, Bernie had a better ground game in NH and as good of one in Iowa. Yet, she has been in both states far longer.
Her donors all maxed out. Bernie's are pitching pennies in comparison. 520,000,000 pennies to be accurate.

She may be short of cash. She needs a large influx or else.

The other alternative is that she and her top aides are so myopic and insular, so bubble wrapped, that it never occurred to them how bad it looks, especially today.

The Wallmart lobbyist is lobbying Clinton. Wonder what great breaks she will be expected to give them and why this was scheduled outside the United States? I suspect it may break US campaign financing laws if it were held inside.

-----------

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's campaign is holding fundraisers in Mexico on Wednesday, expanding its offshore money operation one day after the New Hampshire primary.

Two events hosted by the Clinton campaign treasurer Jose Villarreal will be held in Mexico City. Clinton herself will not be attending.

One of the co-hosts of the fundraising dinner is Wal-Mart lobbyist Ivan Zapien, who relocated to Mexico with the company in 2015. Clinton served on the board of Wal-Mart from 1986-1992.
