AUSTIN -- One person is dead after a police-involved shooting in Northeast Austin Monday morning.
According to Austin police, officers responded to the 300 block of East Yager Street around 10 a.m. Monday after receiving multiple calls about a man acting aggressively toward neighbors. Police said the incident originally started on the 12000 block of Natures Bend before moving to Yager Street.
APD said when officers arrived, the man was naked, running through the neighborhood and continued acting aggressively. At some point, a ten-and-a-half-year Austin Police veteran opened fire and hit the man.
Police said the man who was shot was taken to Round Rock Medical Center where he later died.

(53,235 posts)tranquilizer darts at. Black people they kill. This is police procedure now. We can't fool ourselves with the "bad apples" bullshit, especially when those "bad apples" aren't discarded but are polished instead.

(23,145 posts)Police have criminalized craziness and it's sadly now a shooting offense. It happened here at an AT&T operation where I worked years ago. Woman was a street person and obviously crazy, but was harmless. She was also totally unarmed, had nothing in her hands at all was just panhandling. 6 of them showed up and started harassing her, all the people were defending her, and the police started trying to grab her, she pushed him away and one of the other cops opened fire and killed her. It was totally tragic and unnecessary. Of course, the police won when her sons took them to court. They said she was aggressive and belligerent and the jury just went along with it. Sick!

(1,859 posts)And yes, I know its common. Every single shooting they will accuse the dead person of being a threat to them even if that person was sitting in a wheel chair or walking away.

Should read:
One person is dead after being shot by police
I don't know any of the details, and who knows? It may even have been justified. But, let's call a spade a spade. It doesn't help the police or the public to obfuscate what actually happened behind weasel words.

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]Besides, it gives cops an opportunity to let off some of that good old 'roid aggression.
One would think that a tranq gun or taser would be adequate under the circumstances, but that wouldn't permanently eliminate another drug addict or mentally ill person from the population, now, would it?
Who'd have thought we'd sink so low as a nation to just accept "noncompliance" from an impaired individual as a capital crime?
Mental illness and drug addiction need treatment, not a death sentence!

(1,859 posts)sue the victims family for it happening and him having to defend his life.
Oh, and there's a 99% chance his prescient and the secret independent council of cops will find him perfectly innocent.
Oh, and expect massive racist comments against the dead guy.

Thug.
Aggressive posed photos on his Facebook.
Prior charges.
Newspaper photo will be his mugshot.
The formula's so predictable now, it's like the major media outlets have a style sheet for it.

(311 posts)They do!
Nowadays the court house just email's to the media what they are to "report".
In the old days they would fax what the media shall report.

Whichever scenario it ends up being will determine what could/should have happened to avoid it.

A black teenager who was naked and acting erratically in an Austin, Texas, neighborhood Monday was unarmed when he was fatally shot by police, the Austin Police Department says. Police say that on Monday morning they received multiple calls from residents of the neighborhood in the northeast of the city reporting the teen, now identified as 17-year-old David Joseph, was "acting erratically" and "chasing" another male in a nearby apartment complex.
Austin Police Chief of Staff Brian Manley told reporters Tuesday that when police arrived at the scene, the teen was not wearing any clothes and proceeded to charge at veteran Officer Geoffrey Freeman, who is also black. Manley said the officer ordered Joseph to stop, but that he did not comply.
"Mr. Joseph ultimately charged at the officer and that's when shots were fired," Manley said, noting Freeman fired just seconds after the confrontation began.
. . .
"It's almost incomprehensible that a young naked man would be considered dangerous such that a police officer would kill him," Jim Harrington, director of the TCRP, said in a statement. "There have been way too many police killings over the years simply because police do not know how to deescalate situations and end up resorting to violence. This has to stop."

(1,859 posts)The whole he's black and shot a black kid(which will attempt to excuse him and say he's not racist) doesn't work for me. I don't care what color that officer was. There is a war on black males by the police.
And if you think races can't be racist against their own look at Rubio and Cruz.
