Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders battle over meaning of 'progressive'

Source: USA Today

Nicole Gaudiano

DERRY, N.H. — Sen. Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, speaking in separate appearances at a CNN town hall here Wednesday night, disputed each other's definition of "progressive."

Sanders, I-Vt.,responding to a question from moderator Anderson Cooper, said he respects the former secretary of state, but there are issues where she is "just not progressive.”

He cited Clinton's vote in favor of the war in Iraq, her support for past trade policies and her reluctance to come out against the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal.

“I do not know any progressive who has a super PAC and takes $15 million from Wall Street,” Sanders said.

it's been posted numerous times refuting this charge against Bernie. He explained it himself.

both those bills had massive poison pills inserted in them by the repukes and he has clearly stated this that he couldn't in clear conscious vote for them if they were going to do massive harm via repuke means.

the reality is this: Bernie actually reads the bills and resolutions that come across his desk, he doesn't merely rubber stamp things to "go along to get along".

When HRC had no competition (she thought) in Bernie, she said with enthusiasm how she was in the "middle" and a "moderate" "I plead guilty".

Then when Bernie started rising and she saw that perhaps he would be a serious threat she started using his words exactly "Progressive", "income equality" etc. She changed because she realized he was gaining traction. She is lying by making it look like Bernie is making something out of nothing. But she is dishonest in her attempt to brand him as just nonsense. The MSM is not really explaining why Bernie has said this either. All for Hillary. Bernie just can't win he is not electable is the meme.

When he explained the above and went into what a Progressive was they turned on that comment trying to defuse what the real issue is. Hillary is hypocritical and a flip flopper.

4. Looks like Hillary is back to, "Let's play pretend politics".

Let's pretend she's a liberal, progressive, moderate, centrist, conservative......all of the above. Pick whatever flavor works for you and then just pretend Hillary is that. It's all good.

Answering questions at a women's conference in Silicon Valley earlier this week, Hillary Clinton told Re/code's Kara Swisher that if she ran for president, she wanted to "bring people from right, left, red, blue, [and] get them into a nice, warm, purple space where everybody is talking and where we're actually trying to solve problems." At first glance, it's just a twist on a standard throwaway line from an all-but-declared candidate. Few politicians are really against bipartisanship, and everyone wants to solve problems.

14. Clinton is NOT a Progressive

She's a Centrist. The DLC branch of the Democratic party has been trying to marginalize the progressives in the party for years, which I deeply resent. She and they just DON'T get to lay claim to the word progressive.

This is yet another illustration of how Clinton does what is politically convenient in the moment. Which is why there's video of her bragging about being a Moderate.
