Syrian government signaling aim of military, not political, solution: Kerry

Source: Yahoo! News / Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Continued attacks by Syrian government forces, backed by Russian air strikes, against opposition-held areas signal their intention to pursue a military rather than a political solution to the Syrian conflict, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Wednesday.

In a statement, Kerry called on the Syrian government and its supporters to halt bombardment of opposition-held areas, especially in Aleppo, and end sieges of civilians in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolution, the State Department said in a statement.

"It is past time for them to meet existing obligations and restore the international community’s confidence in their intentions of supporting a peaceful resolution to the Syrian crisis," Kerry said. He added that the United States looked forward to resumption of peace talks later this month.

is that the SAA just ended a 3 yr siege by the American backed rebels. The 2 Shia towns had been held hostage by these group and the US said nothing. You would think these people would be happy that these civilian towns are now free.

The Syrians and the Russians must be doing something right if the west are complaining

in Syria right now.

Once Russian troops went in, it became their game.

Kerry just looks ridiculous telling Assad and Russia what to do and not do.

We are not helping anyone here. Let the locals work it out. If Russia gains a client state, then of course that is bad news for us. But the real bad news will be the USA once again sacrificing our brave troops and spending trillions of dollars in a situation beyond our control and not in our national defense interests.

The possible outcomes here;

1) The horrible dictator Assad (supported by Russia) retains power, but stabilizes his country

2) ISIS takes over, and Syria becomes a fundamentalist Islamic State, such as Saudi Arabia or Iran

3) The USA escalates its military intervention, an endless war continues, we now "own" this broken country, and we spend decades, American lives, and trillions of dollars on yet another no win situation
