Dutch NGO offers pregnant women with Zika free online abortion aid

By AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE | February 2, 2016

NETHERLANDS, Feb 2 – A Dutch NGO said Tuesday it has launched an international effort offering pregnant women infected with the Zika virus free pills to trigger an abortion, aiming to halt any rush towards unsafe terminations.

“The Zika virus is now spreading to most of the countries where abortion is very restricted,” Rebecca Gomperts, founder and director of Women on Web told AFP.

“We are extremely worried that this might cause increasing unsafe abortions. We really care about women’s health and lives and we want to make sure that women have access to a good medical abortion.”

The World Health Organization on Monday said a surge in serious birth defects in South America was “strongly suspected” of being caused by the mosquito-borne Zika virus and constituted an international health emergency.

I hope women who need the pills will get them, and take them.

It will save many women the agony of giving birth to severely malformed children.

Been wondering if Zika spreads throughout the US how the antiabortion groups are going to deal with it. Conception is conception, after all. If they maintain their hard line, they will become even more seriously, widely vilified.

And will the Pope authorize morning after pills in response to the spread of the virus? It seems unJesus-like to expect a mother to take that kind of risk.
