FBI joins Flint, Michigan water investigation

Source: Reuters

The FBI is joining a U.S. investigation into Flint, Michigan's water contamination crisis, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Detroit said on Tuesday.

Gina Balaya, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Detroit, said in an email that federal prosecutors in Michigan are "working with a multi-agency investigation team on the Flint water contamination matter, including the FBI, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the EPA's Office of Inspector General ... and the EPA's Criminal Investigation Division."

The city was under the control of a state-appointed emergency manager when it switched its source of tap water from Detroit's system to the Flint River in April 2014.

The more corrosive water from the river leached more lead from the city pipes than Detroit water did.

Last week, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette named a special prosecutor and investigator to look into possible crimes stemming from the matter.

They should have been in on this months ago!

I don't think much of a White House that's so slow on the uptake.

Now a few will enjoy some Michigan doughnuts, hopefully made with bottled water.

It's a lie that I've seen repeated all over the place.

The Flint water crisis that led to thousands of people being poisoned began because state officials maintained it would save the cash-strapped city money by disconnecting from the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) and using a different source.

But it turns out, DWSD offered the state-controlled city a deal that would have saved Flint more money by staying with Detroit.

Very important. I've seen at least one poster here on DU accusing the City of Detroit of cutting off the water early, when our city was under 'emergency management'.

And I have to believe that there's something to these allegations, the Feds likely wouldn't be wasting their time on this if they didn't have a case.

they want to privatize our precious great lakes.

The world's largest supply of fresh water....and the City of Detroit, and Flint, sitting right in the middle of it.

This has been brewing for a long time. Detroit's hostile white suburbs have wanted the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department for years. Snyder gave them their opening.

The Fed's are Michigans only hope. The "special prosecutor" is a campaign contributor to Gov Snyder, so do you think this lackey will prosecute him? Yeah right! If the Fed's fail the people, pitchforks and torches will be necessary.

must mean they have some correspondence which was sent through the mails... which means they have some damning paperwork or contract or document. Snyder may have been bright enough to refrain from sending email about Flint, but he may certainly have been using the post.

I really hope they get to the bottom of what Snyder and his handpicked crony "Emergency Managers"
did to the people of Flint in the name of saving a few $$. Hang em high!!!

and, if anything does point to Snyder, he will just resign and the investigation will stop. SOP since Nixon.
