An Indianapolis elementary school principal was struck and killed Tuesday by a school bus that jumped a curb, but she is being hailed as a hero for pushing several students out of harm's way before being struck.
Susan Jordan, principal of Amy Beverland Elementary School, died at the scene after the bus struck her and two 10-year-old students at around 2:45 p.m., reports the Indianapolis Star.
The school confirmed Jordan's death on its Facebook page, writing: "Our district has lost an amazing educator. Principal, Mrs. Susan Jordan, was killed this afternoon in a bus accident at Amy Beverland. We ask for your thoughts and prayers for all involved in the tragic events of this afternoon."
The two students who were injured were rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and were in serious but stable condition, the Star said. No one was injured on the bus, which was carrying 25 students.

(57,936 posts)I watched the entire video at that website. Mrs. Jordan was very loved, very effective and I hope that all the teachers and principals and school and department directors in our nation watch that video.
What principals and teachers do is so much more important than their paychecks suggest.
Even we who are way past retirement age still remember the names of our best teachers. The impression that our teachers make on us lives with us every day of our lives even when we don't remember their names.
Remember, teachers. You are making the Americans and thus the America of tomorrow. You train the minds, you set the example for the character, you teach the kindness and concern for the world and for others, that are a part of the children you encounter every day.
There is no way that parents and communities can ever compensate you for what you do.
I especially remember three teachers in my life. I value their memories more than the memories of the other teachers. Each of them recognized in me the person I was and could become. They were all women. They were all women who devoted their entire lives to teaching. I still love each of them. They gave me so much, so unbelievably much.. One helped give me my love of democracy and politics. Another my love of music. And the third my respect for geometry and the form of things.
So I recommend that teachers watch at least a bit of the video because I think that video represents how much we all appreciate the teachers and principals in our lives. Thanks for what you do, all of you teachers out there.

(10,117 posts)...I watched the whole video, too.
That educator made a difference. This retired teacher agrees with you that teachers, especially, need to watch the video.
That school is really going to miss their leader. 😢

(3,963 posts)on the north side. I have good memories going out of our township to play a Lawrence team in Jr. High football. 1960s - Middle School hadn't been established and Jr. High was grades 7-9.
