Human Rights Campaign endorses Hillary Clinton
Source: Politico
Hillary Clinton scored the endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign on Tuesday, with the LGBT rights group hailing the Democratic candidate as the best choice to advance their message in November.
"All the progress we have made as a nation on LGBT equality -- and all the progress we have yet to make -- is at stake in November. In most states, LGBT people are still at risk of being fired, evicted or denied services simply because of who they are," HRC President Chad Griffin said in a statement. "Today, 63 percent of LGBT Americans report having experienced such discrimination, and we are seeing other troubling trends, from the onslaught of state and local anti-LGBT measures to the national scourge of anti-transgender violence to backsliding on HIV/AIDS prevention and youth homelessness."
In his statement, Griffin ripped the Republican candidates, whom he said "repeatedly threaten to block our progress, and to revoke, repeal, and overturn the gains weve made during President Obamas two terms."
"While they fight to take us backwards, Hillary Clinton is fighting to advance LGBT equality across our nation and throughout the world," Griffin said. "We are proud to endorse Hillary Clinton for president, and believe that she is the champion we can count on in November -- and every day she occupies the Oval Office."

Support Hillary Clinton
There is so much at stake for the LGBT community in the 2016 presidential election. Think of all the progress weve made under President Obamas leadership and what could be rolled back, including:
Historic support from the Administration for nationwide marriage equality,
The end of Dont Ask, Dont Tell,
Non-discrimination protections for LGBT employees of federal contractors,
Landmark hate crimes legislation,
Greater visibility for transgender people,
President Obamas call for an end to abusive practice of conversion therapy,
The Administrations support for LGBT students,
Support for HIV prevention and affordable treatment.

On Full Federal Equality
In the United States Senate, Clinton was a strong supporter of LGBT non-discrimination legislation, including being an original cosponsor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). Now she has called it her highest priority to pass and sign into law the Equality Act -- landmark legislation that would establish full federal equality for LGBT Americans. This groundbreaking, comprehensive bill would establish explicit, permanent protections against discrimination based on an individuals sexual orientation or gender identity in matters of employment, housing, access to public places, federal funding, credit, education and jury service. In addition, it would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex in federal funding and access to public places.
On Marriage Equality
In 2013, Hillary Clinton announced her support for marriage equality in an exclusive video for the Human Rights Campaign.
LGBT Americans are our colleagues, our teachers, our soldiers, our friends, our loved ones and they are full and equal citizens, and deserve the rights of citizenship. That includes marriage, Clinton said in the video. Thats why I support marriage for lesbian and gay couples. I support it personally and as a matter of policy and law, embedded in a broader effort to advance equality and opportunity for LGBT Americans and for all Americans. [ ] To deny the opportunity to any of our daughters and sons solely on the basis of who they are and who they love is to deny them the chance to live up to their God given potential. - Hillary Clinton
In 2004 and again in 2006, then-Senator Clinton voted against the discriminatory Federal Marriage Amendment. The following year, in response to Californias decision overturning Proposition 8, Clinton said LGBT couples should have the same rights and responsibilities as all Americans...................
