Sanders predicts Mass. victory, says The Donald is dividing nation

WORCESTER Touting a strong fourth-quarter fundraising haul, Vermont U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders swung through the Bay State yesterday greeted by overflow crowds and with a bold proclamation for early March.
Iowa has the first caucus in the nation and I think we are in striking distance of winning Iowa. New Hampshire has the first primary in the country and I think we are a little bit ahead in New Hampshire, Sanders told the crowd. And on March 1, Massachusetts has its primary. Dont tell anyone, but we are going to win here.
The remark drew the loudest ovation of the evening from the packed gymnasium at Worcesters North High School. Sanders speech was well received, especially when he took swipes at Republican front-runner Donald Trump.
We are not going to allow Donald Trump and these other people to divide us up, Sanders said. No, we are not going to hate Latinos. No, we are not going to hate Muslims. We are going to stand together and create a society and an economy that works for all of us.

(17,215 posts)I think the divisions were already there, and he is just capitalizing on them. Although I suppose it could be argued that by validating bigotry, he encourages bigots to come out of the closet. But is stealth bigotry so much preferable to overt bigotry?

Bernie is the complete opposite. He knows how to bring people together in common interest. Bernie will bring down those walls, and make the opposition feel good about it at the same time.

Clinton won't deny 'narcissistic looney tune' comments about Monica Lewinsky
In a case of silence speaking louder than words, Hillary Clinton did not deny dismissing Monica Lewinsky as a narcissistic loony tune after Lewinskys affair with her husband went public.
Hillary believes in the "till death do us part" part of the marriage vows, just has never held Bill to honoring the "forsaking all others" part.
Yeah, yeah . . . I know . . . all those followers who indignantly proclaim that what goes on in the Clinton marriage is their own decision.
However, when Bill indulged his extramarital sexual appetites in such a reckless manner that they were on public display for all the world to see, and Hillary repeatedly not only excused his behavior, but blamed his victims as narcissistic looney toons and bimbos - well, as they say in court, the Clintons have opened the door to cross-examination on their "marriage".
Can anyone name me a male candidate for president, let alone actual president, or for that matter male or female head of state in any country in history, who has had a spouse who has publicly and repeatedly humiliated said head of state by decades of serial adultery?

Nicolas Sarkozy AND his wife... it's a lifestyle of the rich and powerful.
Americans are 84% against adultery....that still leaves a lot of hanky-panky going on.

But if you just love hearing about such things, I suggest you read some good biographies on FDR and Eleanor, who both had very separate ("publicly and repeatedly"!) sex lives or one on JFK. The difference was the press was not quick to report FDR's and JFK's affairs as they were Bill's, and they did not have the GOP/Starr pushing it into the headlines.
It seems Bill has slowed down considerably as he aged. I have not heard of one, let alone "public and repeated" acts, since the Lewinsky affair. FBR, on the other hand, suffered his final collapse in the company of his mistress. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/07/28/AR2010072805917.html I still think FDR was a great man, and so is Bill. And Eleanor was a great woman, and so is Hillary.

(1,859 posts)I expect her to stay but I expect Bernie to win as soon as Dems start listening to him.
We do need to reach people like my mother - a 71 yo TV watcher because she still thinks Hillary is our best choice. She thinks Bernie is fringe. she's been watching Fox for years - yeah, while she doesn't vote right wing it's her fav tv station. Did I mention she's 71. I keep having to correct her on immigrants not being the biggest issue our country faces. Imagine someone who can't stand Donald Trump or any of the repubs watching fox news every day... it's not uncommon for the seniors. Bernie does need to reach people like her. Standing up to Trump will likely do it.

(38 posts)but polls do not represent actual votes.
Now if you look back at all the Bodies that actually showed up and are still showing up to Bernie's Rallies... those do represent an actual vote more than any poll ever could. How many hundreds, thousands, and tens of thousands has Bernie pulled into arenas all across the nation, most of them packed out, and he still go's outside to talk to the thousands outside in overflow.

(15,370 posts)is set for March 1. Since October, the polls have had Hillary well in the lead, with not much variation.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/ma/massachusetts_democratic_presidential_primary-3891.html There would have to be literally a thirty point or so swing in Bernie's favor in less than two months. Still, stranger things have happened, I suppose.
For those who love to compare 2008 when HRC last campaigned for the Presidency with 2016, Clinton led Obama by a smaller margin in Mass primary polls than she now leads Bernie. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/ma/massachusetts_democratic_primary-539.html
Massachusetts was part of the Super Tuesday primary states in 2008 and moved its primaries to March 1 for the 2016 election to have a greater impact in the GE selection. In 2008, Barack Obama received several major endorsements, including both Senators Ted Kennedy and John Kerry, Caroline Kennedy, Governor Deval Patrick, and superdelegates including Rep. Barney Frank. Hillary still won a convincing victory in the state. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election_in_Massachusetts,_2008#Democratic
Bernie's statements about winning in Massachusetts in 2016 are optimistic, but perhaps not too realistic in the circumstances. Still, more power to him. Hillary is taking nothing for granted anywhere, is working very hard in every state, and is a much stronger candidate than she was in 2008.
