British Government 'may exclude' Donald Trump after 565,000 sign petition calling for UK entry ban
Source: The Telegraph (UK)
Donald Trump could be banned from entering the UK after Theresa May, the Home Secretary, declared that she may exclude people who are not conducive to the public good.
Banning entry to the UK for the US Republican presidential contender, who remains the frontrunner in the heated contest, has been called for by more than 560,000 people in a petition to the Government.
After reaching 100,000 signatures, the Government confirmed that the petition could be discussed in Parliament.
Now a spokesman for Mrs May has responded officially warning that Mr Trumps comments, in which he called for a ban on Muslims entering the USA in the wake of the Paris terror attacks, were divisive, unhelpful and wrong.

(14,745 posts)Let's just hope that America elects a sane President in 2016.
Although there clearly aren't many to choose from if you want a non-loony President.
And yes, British politics are well and truly f**ked as well right now.

(14,449 posts)They'd change their tune. Trump would stop all aid and exports and heck maybe even emports into and out of the U.K. We might even leave NATO over it. I wouldn't put it passed trump.

(942 posts)The head of the Chinese Communist Party got a state visit to the UK in 2015. They even rolled out the Royal Family etc...
People in the UK are ready to ban candidates who haven't even been elected yet, and may never be.
But no problem with dictators that have a long record of human rights violations.

Even the current Chinese "anti-corruption campaign" is mostly a disguised urge of political rivals.

(10,303 posts)You banned the person known as Michael Savage. Banning Trump would cause him some difficulties (I think Trump owns property in Scotland. .. objecting to an offshore wind farm... not to mention his relations with the local community. ...)
I don't think it will happen but hey it's free publicity for his presidential campaign.

(86,748 posts)in Scotland when he took over their property and trashed that of those who adamantly opposed him and his shitty, over-the-top golf course, I could see banning him would be easy for many. On top of that, perhaps the people are hoping to help keep him from getting elected - by whatever means used - by showing that he doesn't get along with anyone off the continent.
