Explosive Documenary links Manning to Growth Hormone
Source: Huff Post:
An Indianapolis anti-aging clinic supplied quarterback Peyton Manning with human growth hormone, a performance-enhancing drug banned by the NFL, a pharmacist who once worked at the clinic asserts in a new special report from Al Jazeeras Investigative Unit.
The report, The Dark Side, is the result of a monthslong investigation in which Liam Collins, a British hurdler, went undercover in an attempt to expose the widespread nature of performance-enhancing drugs in global sports. As a cover story, Collins tells medical professionals tied to the trade of performance-enhancing drugs that he is hoping for one last shot at glory at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Manning is just one of many high-profile players the report names and raises questions about
As part of the investigation, Collins connected with Charlie Sly, a pharmacist based in Austin, Texas, who worked at the Guyer Institute, the Indiana-based anti-aging clinic, in 2011.
Manning missed the 2011 season, when he was a member of the Indianapolis Colts, after undergoing neck surgery. In the documentary, Sly tells Collins, who is taking secret video of his interactions, that he was part of a medical team that helped [Manning] recover from the surgery. Sly alleges that the clinic mailed growth hormone and other drugs to Mannings wife, Ashley Manning, so that the quarterbacks name was never attached to them.

(975 posts)It happened near the end of his career after a surgery that could have left him paralyzed. I doubt it was done to gain a competitive advantage and he was most likely tying to prolong a career that should have been over (he wanted sb win #2 I'm sure). He's also retiring after this season so I doubt anything comes from this.
I say that as a Jags fan and believe me, I hated that bastard when he was with the Colts.

(34,195 posts)Actually he played until his most recent injury, and may be back active soon.

(975 posts)He sat out 2011 and has played 3.5 years since returning in 2012. Yes, I'd call that the end of his career.
And I'm not certain he'll be back before playoffs (if then). I also believe he's likely to retire after this season. He has no other reason to play and his arm is done.

The last thing Manning needed to do was cheat to gain a competitive advantage. He was already the best QB in the league, imo. If he did take HGH it was to speed the healing of his neck. I don't need this to "hate" him. His arrogance and partnership with Papa John's is enough for me. Oh, and the fact that he didn't play for my team! lol

(15,480 posts)Results - a cohort of local kids with legs like giraffes & all 6 inches taller than their same sex parent. The treatment was very expensive and not covered by health insurance. One couple I have known very well for decades spent over $500 per month EACH on their 2 sons for several years of HGH injections. The clever pediatrician sold the 5'8", unathletic father by telling him tall boys are better athletes and tall men are more attractive to women.
So with a 5'8" father and a 5'4" mother, both of their sons grew to 6'4" tall. Both boys, now in their 30's are ungainly and awkward and have never participated in sports at an individual or team level. But, by God, they are TALL! Despite the pediatrician's promise to good old Dad that tall men were more attractive to women, neither was able to find a girl friend (or boy friend) in high school or college years. The oldest is a really sweet, very religious guy (on her deathbed, when he was 15, his mother made him vow to remain a virgin until he married - he's a very devout Catholic) and has never been able to find a partner; the other son spent his later teenage years and most of his 20's proudly proclaiming he was a bisexual transvestite and clubbing & drugging with others of like convictions. A few years ago, he finally found a girl friend who was determined to "save him" and has dropped the sexual diversity and the weekends spent doing Lady Gaga impersonations and wearing meat dresses.
How were their respective sex drives, or lack thereof, affected by massive doses of HGH in their early years? Some studies of men who took this drug as adults showed a decrease in libido as a possible side effect. I have not come across any studies of long term impact on children put on years long HGH injection regimens.
What the fuck does their pediatrician care how about long term impacts or how these kids turned out? He's made his fortune in kickbacks from Big Pharma.

(2,427 posts)Barry Bonds is a great example of how peoples skulls will grow with HGH and other things. Foot width tends to become exaggerated as well.
Totally anecdotal observations on my part.

(20,214 posts)An excess of growth hormone in adults can cause growth of the forehead and jaw, as well as thickening and lengthening of the bones in the limbs. Tony Robbins (motivational speaker) has it, as did Andre the Giant and Ted Cassidy (Lurch). It's hard on the liver and heart too.

(11,522 posts)My head is definitely wider than when I was in my 20's, yet I've NEVER taken any sort of steroid, HGH, etc. I'm just not buying that as being a dead giveaway. Oh yeah, my feet are a good bit wider than when I was in my 20's as well.... I just attribute that to hauling around my lard ass all those years.

(3,384 posts)Manning released a statement Saturday night denying he's ever used HGH and calling the report "garbage" and "totally made up."
Later Manning elaborated in a statement to ESPN Chris Mortensen:
"Yes, I have been a patient under Dr. Guyer," Manning said. "I have had nutrient therapy, oxygen therapy and other treatments that are holistic in nature but never HGH. My wife has never provided any medication for me to take. Ashley and I never attended the clinic together after hours. There were times when I went in the morning and there were times when I went after practice so this thing about 'after hours' is so misleading because it may have been 5:15 pm because their office closed at 5."
Former White House press secretary Ari ( FLEABAG SLEAZEBAG) Fleischer, who is representing Manning, told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport that the quarterback has never used HGH, never failed any league drug tests and that the report will not affect his playing status.
