From the section Africa

An Air France flight from Mauritius to Paris has been forced to make an emergency landing in Kenya after a suspect package was found on board.

The pilots of the Boeing 777 requested to land at Moi International Airport in Mombasa after the package was discovered in the toilet.

The aircraft was safely evacuated and the item is now being examined by bomb experts, police spokesman Charles Owino said.

I no longer fear flying except for bad maintenance, bad pilots, and people with bad intent.

Kenya: No Bomb Found Yet in Device on Air France Flight

No explosives have been found yet on the suspicious device that caused an Air France flight from Mauritius to Paris to be diverted to Mombasa, Kenya, said a Kenyan police official.

The device, found in a lavatory on the plane, looked like a cardboard box with a stop watch taped to it, said the official who is part of the investigation and who insisted on anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the press. The box has been taken apart and no explosives have been found yet, he said. The digital watch is being analyzed, he said.

Six passengers are being questioned over the incident, he said.

A passenger reported the device to the cabin crew who informed the pilots leading to an emergency landing at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa. One of those being interrogated is the man who reported the package.

Air France flight makes emergency landing in Kenya after false bomb alarm

An emergency landing of an Air France flight from Mauritius to Paris in Kenya was caused by a false bomb alert, the airline's chief says.

Frederic Gagey told a news conference that the suspected package turned out to have been made of paper and a timer.

The pilots of the Boeing 777 requested to land at Moi International Airport in Mombasa after the item was found in a toilet.

Both the aircraft and airport were safely evacuated.
