Star Wars Force Awakens: George Osborne booed at premiere

Source: Independant

"George Osborne has been booed by Star Wars fans at the London premiere of the new movie.

The Chancellor attended the screening of the new installment of the sci-fi franchise in London’s Leicester Square on Wednesday night along with Prime Minister David Cameron.

<snip>

Mr Cameron was politely applauded but Mr Osborne was met “muted applause, then a few boos, and then a few more boos after people realised it was OK”, an audience member told the Evening Standard.

<snip>

It was also revealed that, although Mr Osborne is a big fan of the franchise (the Treasury is now apparently home to several replica lightsabers), he refused a request by the Star Wars PR team to station stormtroopers outside Downing Street because it “would make us look like fascists”.

Not putting storm troopers outside of Downing Street was probably a good decision.

He went to see a movie in public instead of a private showing and he gets booed. Perhaps it isn't often one gets the opportunity to boo a Scrooge, still I think they should do that outside of Parliament.

It's disabled athletes getting awards and that crowd was merciless. They have their reasons.

Like if Rush Limbaugh was elected to a public office. But, I live in Minnesota and this kind of thing just strikes me as weird.

He is really a special kind of evil Conservative- if Dick Cheney and Margaret Thatcher had a child, it would be Osbourne. Even many Tories think he goes too far.

he is the type that would send Oliver out into the street for asking for more gruel. I still wish they would picket him when he is on government property send sternly worded emails and letters vote him out of office and find someone better. But, booing him at a public event isn't so cool IMO. I wouldn't even do that to Trump or any other candidate. I hate Trump I think he is vile (anagram that) and embodies so much that is wrong with Republicans, but I wouldn't boo him in public. Things like this don't solve the problem of hateful people being in office. In fact, it might just embolden the idiots that put them in office.

to save anyone else from having to look it up. It looks like his unpopularity is about his austerity measures.
