San Bernardino Shooter's Neighbor Arrested On Terror Charges, Allegedly Planned Earlier Attacks
Source: ABC News
Enrique Marquez, a neighbor and friend of one of the San Bernardino shooters, has been arrested for allegedly providing material support to terrorists, officials said.
Authorities said that Marquez and shooter Syed Farook allegedly began plotting terror attacks in Southern California in 2011 -- "attacks which were, fortunately, not carried out -- and discussed a firearms and explosives attack on Riverside Community College.
"While there currently is no evidence that Mr. Marquez participated in the Dec. 2, 2015 attack or had advance knowledge of it, his prior purchase of the firearms and ongoing failure to warn authorities about Farooks intent to commit mass murder had fatal consequences," said U.S. Attorney Eileen M. Decker of the Central District of California.
Farook's attack on the Inland Regional Center, committed along with his wife Tashfeen Malik, left 14 people dead and another 22 injured. The FBI was investigating the incident as an act of terrorism.

(3,051 posts)I listened to the police scanner while it happened, posting here as things developed.
I clearly heard the police officer (the one who was later shot) say "Hold it, I see two long beards in a [vehicle that matched the description]." He lost them for a bit, then began a slow tail by a Target which eventually turned into the high speed shoot out.
Key information being "two long beards."
Now, Jihadi Jane there was ONE UGLY woman, but she didn't have a beard.
Pretty obvious to me that someone jumped out.
Recall also the initial reports said THREE shooters.

(6,241 posts)on the day of the attack? That would account for one. Or his wife wore a fake beard as a disguise? They seemed trying to hide what they were doing that day (telling her mom they were going to the dentist). Was the officer mistaken?

(15,512 posts)911: And what's wrong? Why do you feel like you want to kill yourself? What's going on?
Marquez: I don't know. My neighbor. He did the San Bernardino shooting.
{snip}
...
Marquez: The f****** a****** used my gun in the shooting.
911: You said he used your gun?
Marquez: Yes. Oh my god.
911: How do you know it's your gun?
Marquez: [unintelligible] They can trace all the guns back to me.
911: It wasn't. How did he get your gun?
Marquez: I couldn't have it at home because I have brothers and then I got moved and then I can't have it around [unintelligible].
911: So you gave him your gun?
Marquez: Only for safe storage?
911: It was in storage?
Marquez: Yeah.
911: How did he get it out of storage?
Marquez: It wasn't in storage. To me, he was reliable enough for him for storage, like to store my gun.
911: Oh, you had him store your gun?
Marquez: Yeah. And then he [unintelligible]. Why did he have to do it?
911: What was the guy's name that had your gun?
Marquez: It's Syed Farook.
The criminal complaint then notes that Marquez went to the emergency room at the UCLA Harbor Medical Center. He said that he was not normally a drinker but had about nine bottles of beer before going to the hospital "because he was very upset," the federal criminal complaint states.

(15,512 posts)Today, Marquez was charged with conspiring to provide material support to terrorists, unlawfully purchasing two assault rifles and defrauding immigration authorities.
He allegedly plotted with shooter Syed Farook on earlier attacks that were never carried out and provided the rifles that were used in the San Bernardino attack.

But apparently he had no knowledge of the Dec. 2 attack:
"While there currently is no evidence that Mr. Marquez participated in the Dec. 2, 2015 attack or had advance knowledge of it, his prior purchase of the firearms and ongoing failure to warn authorities about Farooks intent to commit mass murder had fatal consequences," said U.S. Attorney Eileen M. Decker of the Central District of California.
Nevertheless he's probably going to go to prison for a long time unless he hires a really good attorney.
