US man sentenced to eight years in prison over KKK 'death ray' plot to attack Muslims

Source: Reuters

A New York man has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison for his role in a plot to build a remote-controlled radiation-emitting “death ray” intended to harm Muslims and the president, Barack Obama.

Eric Feight, 55, pleaded guilty in January to a federal charge of providing material support to terrorists. He admitted helping Glendon Scott Crawford, a self-proclaimed Ku Klux Klansman, in modifying an industrial-grade radiation device, which tabloid newspapers dubbed a “death ray,” and building a switch to operate it from a distance.

“The sentence today highlights both the dangers we face when hatred and bigotry beget domestic terrorism and violent extremism, and our commitment to holding those who commit such crimes accountable,” said Richard S. Hartunian, US attorney for the Northern District of New York.

“No American – of any background – should have to live in fear of this kind of attack,” he said in a statement announcing the 97-month sentence handed down in federal court in Albany.

I wonder exactly how feasible his planned device was, and if they had the resources and skills needed to construct it. Glad to see the FBI had people on the inside who were able to discover the plot.

The scheme sounds farfetched to me, but what do I know.

Albany

A plot to design a radiation weapon that could fit in a small van and be used to silently kill humans was unraveled by an FBI task force that charged two men - a General Electric Co. industrial mechanic from Saratoga County and a computer software expert from Columbia County - with conspiring to sell the weapon to Jewish groups or a southern branch of the Ku Klux Klan.

A federal complaint unsealed Wednesday in Albany said the vehicle-mounted radiation gear was intended to be remotely controlled and capable of aiming a high-energy lethal beam of radioactivity at human targets. The concept was that victims would mysteriously die from radiation poisoning within days.

The FBI on Tuesday arrested Glendon Scott Crawford, 49, of Providence, Saratoga County, and Eric J. Feight, 54, of Stockport, who are accused of developing "a radiation emitting device that could be placed in the back of a van to covertly emit ionizing radiation strong enough to bring about radiation sickness or death against Crawford's enemies," according to an FBI agent's sworn complaint.

Crawford, who was suspended from his job at GE in Schenectady this week, and Feight, who previously worked for an electronics company near Hudson, are acquaintances who over the past year had devised a plan to build and sell the weapon to a terrorist organization, according to the FBI. Crawford's role was to design and build the radiation device and its power supply, the complaint states.

These two guys were going into the death-ray business (sounds like they did their RnD on the company clock)? They totally sound like RWNJs, they wanted this death ray used against POTUS.

They deserve life sentences.
