2 dead in suspected road rage shootings in Oklahoma
Source: AP
Two people were killed in separate shootings on a western Oklahoma interstate early Thursday after a man drove through three counties firing randomly from his pickup truck, authorities said. The suspected shooter later surrendered and was being held in a county jail.
Custer County Sheriff Bruce Peoples said reports came in late Wednesday of a man firing at vehicles on Interstate 40 in Canadian County, which is adjacent to Oklahoma City. The man apparently continued driving west on the interstate, firing at vehicles as he drove erratically and at a high rate of speed, the sheriff said.
"He shot so many vehicles that it would have been totally impractical to assume he knew them," Peoples said, describing the case as a suspected road rage incident.
Multiple other vehicles were struck by gunfire in the incident, but those drivers escaped injury, Peoples said.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol are also investigating.

(60,334 posts)People had guns, they kept them at home or took them hunting or to a shooting range and didn't feel they needed to stand behind a gun to be a man.
Now you have to be damn careful that you don't piss someone off in public, or anywhere else least they might own a gun.
The Wild West image portrayed by the movies holds nothing over modern America. The gangster movies and legends hold nothing over modern America.
Maybe we all need bulletproof vest just to leave our homes.

(15,715 posts)for repair or selling it. In any case no one worried about the gun. When I was in hight school, guys would have them in their truck or even bring them into the classroom to ask someone about it. Now way too many crazies. Maybe it is the fluoride in the water. Shit, it has to be something.

they are intelligent. When I was going up you could ask an adult something and they did not have any problem at all saying "I don't know". Now everyone has to pontificate about everything making up crap as they go along. Heck I don't know jack, but I will tell someone what worked for me in a certain situation and maybe it will work for you.
But it is scary these days. I really feel for the younger people who are not able not to walk downtown by yourself to go to a movie theater, Or ride your bicycle 5 or 10 miles to visit another grade school friend.

(3,233 posts)The internet and social media amplifies everyone's feelings of self importance, whether it's healthy or not. Thoughts once shared with just one other individual are now put on public display, and everyone feels compelled to comment on everything.
And yeah, I was just thinking about how I used to ride my bike all day as a kid, with no worries of psychopaths, etc, but my wife and I are worried about letting our son walk to a middle school that is ten blocks from our house.

(31,388 posts)picked up somebody's newspaper from their driveway--looked at it--threw it back down. He crossed
the street, picked up another newspaper--looked at it (must have been the edition he wanted) and kept
going. About 10 more feet he pulled the plastic wrap off it and tossed it in the middle of the street.
Nobody else around. I thought about yelling at him to put it back, you thief, and then I thought, what
if he has a gun? So I said nothing.

(160,530 posts)I appreciate your comment about their need to stand behind guns to feel like men. It definitely fits.

Always be aware to the vehicles around you, it's normally easy to spot the signs of mentally unstable road rage types.

(15,882 posts)that gets you - far and away, almost inconceivably better odds of dying in a car wreck than being a victim of a terrorist like this.
You got your 12+1, the kid coming down the road at you is texting on her phone to her BFF. Good luck.
It's the least likely of the two that scares people. Funny...

They tailgate, zip in and out of traffic, flash their lights, want to race you at every red light, fly the bird ect...
IMHO all these types of aggressive drivers are mentally unstable.

(6,587 posts)VA, Okla. (NBC News) Stunning video shows disgruntled hotel guest ramming his truck through the lobby of an Oklahoma hotel.
It happened Thursday at a Comfort Inn and Suites in the City of Alva.
According to published reports, the 62-year-old man from Gonzalez, Texas was upset because his credit card had been declined twice.
Security video shows the man slam his truck into drive and race through the front entrance and into the front desk. Two women frantically dove for safety.
The driver told hotel staff he drove into the hotel because they thought he was bluffing and he proved he wasnt.
The driver was held on $1 million bond Monday night in the Woods County Jail on two felony counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and one count of malicious injury to property valued at more than $1,000.
Yeah, Oklahoma.......................Maybe same guy or is it the water in OK from fracking, maybe the earthquakes are shaking up the people from all the fracking.

(13,877 posts)Just think if all those cars had guns in them. and they started trying to get the bad guy with the gun, how many other motorists might have been injured or killed. I mean, what's your first reaction when someone starts shooting and you have your gun? But in moving vehicles and all the confusion, I'm thinking the marksmanship might not be so great.
