Migrant crisis: Dutch town riots over asylum centre plan
Source: BBC
A meeting in a Dutch town to discuss whether to build a new centre for migrants had to be abandoned when some opponents rioted.
Protesters in Geldermalsen tore down fences and threw fireworks at police who responded with warning shots.
European countries are facing record numbers of refugees and other migrants entering Greece illegally from Turkey.
Dutch State Secretary for Security and Justice Klaas Dijkhoff said the protesters had crossed a line.

In one fell swoop, the citizenry finds themselves outnumbered by people who are, sometimes, not happy with their makeshift accommodations.

Coupled with the rise of neonazism and some pretty bad behavior on the part of a small number of refugees, I feel very sorry for the German people and the refugees. It's going to be a rocky few years in all likelihood.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other... and each as irrelevant and melodramatic as the other. Oops, indeed.

haven't had to experience personally and will never have to encounter in their
sheltered insular lives.
The Dutch & Germans are perfectly right in their response to a ridiculous situation
that is being aggravated and cheered on by nations who are both responsible for
the underlying issue and yet totally isolated from the effects.

People have turned to Twitter to denounce Dutch media and police of racist hypocrisy in dealing with the riots.
A large white Dutch crowd started a riot in a small town in the Netherlands on Wednesday in anger over plans to shelter refugees.
A 2000-strong march towards the town hall of Geldermalsen, near Utrecht, quickly evolved into a riot when protesters started to tear down the fences that protected the building.
Dozens of youth proceeded by throwing fireworks, bricks and bottles at the police, which was followed by attempts to raid the town hall where a debate was taking place on whether to delay the building of a centre to house 1,500 asylum-seekers.
No center for asylum-seekers in Geldermalsen!!

It is anyone's guess whether the far-right actively organized this violent protest or just laid the rhetorical groundwork for a 'spontaneous' protest. Demonizing refugees (as Mr. Trump and republicans are so good at) has expected consequences.

The unrest began in the early spring of 2011 within the context of Arab Spring protests, with nationwide protests against President Bashar al-Assad's government, whose forces responded with violent crackdowns. The conflict gradually morphed from prominent protests to an armed rebellion after months of military sieges.
