EU will not raise social media age limit to 16

The European Union's member states will set their own age limits for social media use after they failed to agree on a uniform policy.
There had been a proposal to ban Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other services from processing personal data belonging to under-16s unless their parents had given consent. That would have effectively prevented the companies from offering their services to young people.
The European Commission and European Parliament had originally proposed that there should be a uniform age of consent set at 13 years, which would have brought the EU in line with the US.
At present most of Europe already follows this rule, although Spanish law prevents companies processing data belonging to the under-14s. As a result, Facebook and other social media companies operate a higher age limit in the country.

No need for the EU to be introducing legislation like this IMHO. Leave it to the member states.
