Putin vows 'extremely tough' action on Syria threats

President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Russian military to take "extremely tough" action against any threat to its forces in Syria.
Any targets threatening its forces must be "immediately destroyed", he said.
Mr Putin did not elaborate but Turkey and Russia are currently locked in a spat over the downing of a Russian jet by Ankara.
Russia began air strikes in Syria in September, saying this had been requested by President Bashar al-Assad.

(26 posts)Everyone needs to just go home and take care of their own failing economies. Russia may have the right on this one. Let the Syrian people control their own lives. Now no one wants to take in refugees after dropping bombs on them!

(90,061 posts)Dec 11 President Vladimir Putin said on Friday Russia was supporting the opposition Free Syrian Army, providing it with air support, weapons and ammunition in joint operations with regular Syrian forces against Islamist militants.
"The work of our aviation group assists in uniting the efforts of government troops and the Free Syrian Army," Putin told an annual meeting at the Defence Ministry.
"Now several of its units numbering over 5,000 troops are engaged in offensive actions against terrorists, alongside regular forces, in the provinces of Homs, Hama, Aleppo and Raqqa," he said, referring to the Free Syrian Army.
