WASHINGTON The Capitol Hill office for the Council on American-Islamic Relations has been evacuated Thursday afternoon due to a foreign substance received in the mail.
Ibrahim Hooper tells The Associated Press that the headquarters for the Council on American-Islamic Relations was evacuated except for staffers who had come into contact with the substance.
Hooper says the substance arrived in an envelope Thursday morning.
Maha Sayed, a staff attorney for CAIR, released the following statement:

Two employees of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) have been quarantined inside the building, said the group's executive director.
After opening a piece of post they experienced headaches and are coughing, Nihad Awad told the BBC.
The rest of the staff are outside while emergency crews respond.

CAIR says preliminary field tests indicate the substance is not dangerous. The FBI has the letter and will do more extensive tests, the organization says.
