Scotland cuts ties with Donald Trump. He says it should be ‘thanking me’ instead.

Source: Washington Post

LONDON -- An unrepentant Donald Trump responded Thursday to the backlash in the U.K. over his controversial statements on Muslims by saying that British politicians should be grateful that he has stated “what needed to be said.”

Writing in the Press and Journal, one of Scotland’s oldest newspapers, the leading U.S. Republican presidential candidate accused them of pandering to political correctness when instead they “should be thanking me.”

Trump has faced widespread outrage in the U.K. -- and indeed around the world -- over his calls for a complete ban on Muslims entering the United States. But while Trump has only doubled down since first making his incendiary remarks, he did appear to be put off by the reaction from Scotland.

On Wednesday, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon dropped him as a business ambassador, revoking his membership in the GlobalScot business network. The Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen also stripped the billionaire developer of his honorary degree for statements it said were “wholly incompatible” with the values of the university.

Trump likes to pretend he is a Scot when it suits him, AFAIK from his mother's Hebrides ancestry? It's only a flea bite but I bet being rejected by his ancestors did bother him. He's been rejected by Scots before, with his wind farm protests, but this is more public and personal. Won't change anything but nice to know he got a sting.

Also, there is a very real campaign to have him banned from UK for hate speech. Cameron will probably duck it but it does embarrass the Tories, who have already had to denounce his remarks. They don't appreciate being put on the spot as kissing cousins of Republicans.

See if people want leadership and winning, they'll turn to me, Donald Trump. I don't need Scotland. I buy and sell entire countries like them before I eat breakfast in morning because I am very rich and very smart and I am good with money.

If trump wins, then Cameron will cozy up to him. This will oddly accelerate the call to have another vote on the Scotch separatists issue, especially if England wants to leave the EU and Scotland wishes to stay.

Some of them are saying they wish British politicians had the nerve to say what he said. I'm reading their comments on my FB page. Most of these people I've known for years and as far as I know they vote Labour.

Old Fartface's comments have come up in a number of conversations with different people. Even those who are sympathetic consider his proposal for banning all Muslim immigrants to be too extreme and completely unworkable.

Also, when the leader of the far right UK Independence Party think's you've gone too far then that's a clear sign that you've gone too far. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/nigel-farage-says-donald-trumps-policy-of-banning-muslim-immigration-to-the-us-is-a-political-a6765431.html

Maybe if I still lived down in Essex I'd find a few Alf Garnett wannabe's who'd agree with old fartface?

Right about now, most people I talk to just want Hilary Clinton as the next US President. Very few people over here have any idea who Bernie Sanders is.
