President Obama To Address Nation Over Terror Threats (SUNDAY EVE)

Source: CNN

(CNN)President Barack Obama on Sunday night will deliver a rare Oval Office address about terror threats in the aftermath of the San Bernardino, California, shootings that claimed 14 lives. CNN and other networks will broadcast it live at 8 p.m. ET.

The White House says the president will provide an update on the investigation. Federal authorities have said the attacks are being investigated as an act of terrorism.

"The President will also discuss the broader threat of terrorism, including the nature of the threat, how it has evolved, and how we will defeat it," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement. "He will reiterate his firm conviction that ISIL will be destroyed and that the United States must draw upon our values -- our unwavering commitment to justice, equality and freedom -- to prevail over terrorist groups that use violence to advance a destructive ideology."

Sunday's Oval Office address will be only the third of Obama's presidency. The prior two occurred in 2010, about the end of U.S. operations in Iraq, and the Gulf oil spill. He has delivered other prime time speeches from the White House, focusing on the killing of Osama bin Laden, military intervention in Syria, immigration and other issues.

Had to look it up to confirm but he's only given 2 addresses during his entire 2 terms, from the Oval Office. He usually does them from the East Room when in the evening...

This Sunday's episode of Family Guy was supposed to be the episode "A Shot in the Dark" which is about a shooting. It's since been pulled because of the San Bernardino shootings, and will air the following Sunday.

What's bizarre about this, is that the episode was supposed to have aired in November and got pulled by Fox because of the Paris shootings.

It's going to air on December 13th, so be watchful during the week before. This episode seems jinxed.

The LAST TIME President Obama called a Special Address from the White House Oval Office was Aug. 31, 2010 to announce End of U.S. combat operations in Iraq.

This would be the THIRD Special Address of President Obama from the Oval Office of his seven year term, with the first being June 15, 2010 - during the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

This speech and Special Address from the Oval Office is coming after the largest lost of life in a targeted terrorist attack since 9/11 and the second largest lost of life in a gun related incident since Sandy Hook.

Nothing this, it is doubtful the President would be scheduling a special address at 8pm on a Sunday night unless it was addressing a direct change in policy and/or possibly uptick on Military Operations in response to ISIS in America and Aboard.

won't announce those things.

I hope he concentrates on the need to get guns out of the hands of crazies such as the PP shooter and the shooters in San Bernardino.

Would that include the US government? What could be more crazy than the US war against Arabs in the Middle East? Time for a little gun control in that area.

Probably a minor point.

1. 15%. He's kept us safe. Sadly, that's always "I have an elephant charm to ward off elephants" kind of argument. (Hey, it must work--there are no elephants in my neighborhood.) Might be true, might not be, it's utterly post hoc and doesn't (and can't) show causality.

2. 35%. If we show distrust and suspicion to each other and calling for more surveillance, more restrictions on Constitutional rights but more importantly infringing on the *real* rights that we have; and that by our showing distrust calling for more surveillance and infringement on rights the bad guys will have won. This claim is common, but assumes that if we show distrust and have more surveillance they'll sit back and say, "Ah, that's all we wanted." It makes what we don't want into their goal and counts as hubris.

3. 35%. More gun restrictions and control, shaming (R) in and out of Congress on this point and saying what he'll do to get around Congress and even states in trying to limit gun purchases and ownership.

4. 15%. More direct action including more coalition-building and more of the same. Yeah, more strikes, more boots on the ground, more training. Except that in this particular case it'll be against the wrong people--Colorado wasn't IS, and the couple in Calif. weren't really IS.

No one forces him to do anything. Ending US aggression in the Middle East would go a long way toward solving the terrorism problem.
