Harry Reid to force vote on gun amendment

Harry Reid to force vote on gun amendment

The goal is to keep guns away from people convicted of violating laws protecting the entrances of health care clinics.

By Jennifer Haberkorn

.............Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid has introduced the amendment, which would ban gun ownership by people who have been convicted of misdemeanors under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, a 1994 law meant to prevent violence and harassment at abortion clinics.

The bill is a clear response to last week’s shooting at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado, where three people were killed and nine were injured.

Reid is expected to force a vote on the amendment during consideration of the Republicans’ Obamacare repeal bill, which would use the complex budget reconciliation process to eliminate major parts of the health law.

money so sell what they have. Most guns on the street are stolen from legal gunowners, they get sold on the street, then usually get pawned quickly when the person who bought the gun needs diapers or gas money, or to help with rent money, etc. and then the pawn shops sell them back to legal gun owners and the cycle starts again.

People who get convicted of loitering.
Others who get convicted of possession of an open container.

This kind of knee-jerk reaction is why I won't miss Harry one fucking bit when he retires.

of making guns less available however, how in the world does this amendment stop a nut from getting their hands on a gun and using it? The man responsible committed the crime of murder do you really think he cared or would care about violating a gun restriction law? We need some common sense.

Most sellers in an illegal sale are not prosecuted for their crime.

Unfortunately, federal law prohibits private sellers from using NICS for background checks.

I have and like firearms.

I have little or no moral or ethical qualms about criminals being shot by their intended victims.

***BUT***

Crazy assholes who harass people (whatever the cause) should not only not have guns but never be let near them (as with people who have demonstrated inability to control their actions in a number of other contexts such as domestic abuse, etc).

Well Done, Senator Reid.

*THIS* is exactly the sort of thing I can point to when extreme abolitionists OR extreme (unlimited) RKBA proponents ask me 'well, what constitutes reasonable restrictions on a 'right'.

Buy a gun to protect yourself against a robber or carjacker, fine, but if you are harassing women at PP clinics or the like (or you've ever used a firearm in commission of a crime) damned if it should be any easier than getting a bag of smack for you to get a gun; you're a crazy asshole, not a member of a 'well regulated militia'.

abortion clinics, but I'm still glad Reid is proposing it. Just get it before congress immediately before the NRA lobby shows up.
