The announcement came hours after local leaders called on protesters in Minneapolis to stop gathering at the police building not far from where the shooting occurred.
Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced the charges against the four men on Monday, saying that one man Lawrence Scarsella, 23 had been charged with five counts of second-degree assault and one count of second-degree riot for shooting at the demonstrators.
The other three men Joseph Martin Backman, 27; Nathan Wayne Gustavsson, 21; and Daniel Thomas Macey, 26 were all being charged with one count of second-degree riot, Freeman said.
